I have been using the Ultra Plus with OXI Clean now and love it!
I was amazed at how well it took stains out of my muddy Soccer clothes! How do the Ultra Plus with fabric softener & the Ultra Plus in the Orange & Green box compare? Do either of them have a fresher scent than the Oxi? I like my clothes to smell fresh & clean!

Both the orange and green box and the one with the softner have very light scents and are about the same as the box you have. We have used the ultra for many years and it does a great job.

I use the Orange box variety-

cleans very well, almost no sudsing, and the scent (a very light citrus) does not linger!

The fact that it costs very little to use is just a lovely plus.

Out

I just ran out. Need to swing my my local Sears and pick up a new box. I'll look for the Oxy version and see if it is any better than the Orange box.

(Thats the pink box, right?)

Hi Malcom!

The Ultra Plus Oxi Clean is in the blue box. There are two formulas...one is the regular Oxi Clean and the other is Ultra plus Oxi dye & perfume free formula. The one that I use and get great results from is the blue box regular oxi clean.

I have used Ultra Plus in the Orange Box

in the home style washers for a number of years. Use on avg of a box a day. If does a very good job and rinses freely and leaves no lingering fragrances. And most of all is VERY cost effective. I have it on auto shipment from the service center. 15 boxes every other week. They will bring it in and put it where we want it. Driver knows by now just where they go.

There was another thread

Where some one was asking about and just bought the UP with fabric softner. UP with fabric softener is my first choice. Right now I have the blue box UP with Oxiclean. I explained in another thread that there is a certain sliding glass door that everyone uses to go in and out to the patio/pool area, (including 3 dogs). The one panel was getting very dirty. One nite while cleaning up after dinner and washing up dishes that would not fit in the dishwasher, I looked up and saw how nasty this panel had become (camel color now black around the edge and bottom). I threw it in my HE3 kenmore, after reading the care lable, washed it on the delicate cycle with cold water and UP with Oxiclean. The panel look as good as new. No dirty was left behind. I ended up having to take down the other 3 panels and wash them cause they looked so dirty after washing the one with UP-Oxiclean.

I've used both. The blue box (or bucket) with Oxyclean seems to get whites whiter than the other varieties of Ultra Plus. It also seems to leave them a bit softer.

But for heavily soiled clothes my mainstay is the orange box supplemented with about 1/3 as much STPP. This also works very well.

The scent of the blue box powder is a bit different than that of the orange box powder. Mild, but different.

SEARS POWERED DETERGENT

There is a reason that it makes almost no suds and rinses out so easily and costs so little. It is a very poor detergent, I work a on over a thousand automatic washers a year and in our area the water is between 6-10 grains of hardness. When I see crusted scaly mineralized washers one of the most frequently used detergents is the Sears stuff, we also see a lot of problems with Amway and Shaklee products and some other bargain dollar store detergents. All that said I am sure that you can get good results from this or any detergent if used in proper quantities and water temperatures. But with the exception of over priced junk like Amway and Shaklee products who do kinda get what you pay for.

@ combo52

So is it the product,or the consumer using more than should be causing this problem with scaly machines? Also since you have worked on so many machines have you seen the same problem with consumers using and/or overloading with liquids?

DETERGENT ISSUES

I have never seen any build up problems that were caused by using too much detergent in a washing machine. Detergent itself will not leave any residue in a washer if it was desolved in the water. The dried or gooey residue that we have all seen in old washers is various combinations of mineral deposits, dirt and oils and possibly fabric softener residue. All of these are generally caused by using too little detergent and sometimes too cold wash water temperatures.

It is a very poor detergent

This is honestly the first time I have read this. I have usually heard quite the opposite, hence the reason I spent $25.99 for a box last night.

Sears Detergents

I grew up using Sears and Tide detergents. Mama swore by Sears detergent. I can remember when you would buy a 50 pound box for $19.99 and it would last nearly one year. I still use the Sears Oxi, orange box, and with softener. They all do a fantastic job and I've never had any problems with them. I've always loved the soft citrus scent also.

Well.............

I happen to love the Sears detergent. It does a very good job and I've been very pleased with the performance for the few years I have used it. My only complaint would be I wish that my local Sears would still carry the bucket instead of the box. I usually buy the 240 load box and pour it into a big old glass cookie jar and it seems to work well.
