The Army is working on this fabric. I do wonder if over the coming years will lots of regular clothing be made of this and washers and dryers will go away. On the video where the lady puts the uniform in the commercial washer it is not near full enough to me.

I honestly don't see just how this would work for long-term, how long will this coating last? It kind of reminds me of this........

Sorry ...

... but this would never work.

When you "plasticize" fabric, you sacrifice an important quality: breathability.

This stuff sounds like a sweatsuit nightmare.

...isn't it like wearing a garbage bag?

Yay!! The garment of choice for the Class of '77 punk rockers makes its return! You can puke your guts out and it just slides right off.

Oh, nostalgia; my knees wish they could still take the nonstop pogoing.

Clean

To me, it these clothes just wouldn't "feel" clean the next time I put them on.

Sure, to look at they'd probably be clean, and there would be no odour, but the idea of putting clothes on that hadn't come into contact with soap and water?....

It goes against the laws of nature lol. Soap and water to clean.

breathability

This materila could provide sufficent breathability, since it looks very similar to Gore-Tex. Still, clothes that I'd just need to - in the worst case - spray with Windex? I don't think so.

Nano technology is pretty interesting. I like the idea of the never-dirty car with lotus effect. However, nano silver particles in deodorant that find their way deep down into my lungs and give me cancer or whatever? No, thanks. :-(

It's okay for dirt to slide off on the outside.

And what about on the inside which is in contact with the skin? Body oils, sweat, other stuff and skin flakes - does all that slide off the fabric too? Can't imagine that there is a fabric that will totally repell all this stuff without some kind of cleaning process. Unless one wears disposable and absorbent underwear that captures body stuff and keeps it suspended until it's disposed off.
