Self Cleaning Oven

I ran the cleaning cycle on our Frigidaire gas stove tonight, and I put the burner grates in the oven too, after the cycle was over and the grates were rinsed they are so clean and shiny again. Anyone else ever do this?

Well, how old is your range and are your burner grates cast iron?

I'm really afraid to put my grates in the oven & even too afraid to leave the racks in there, too (but I think I would take the supports off my "automatic gliding rack", if it were safe to clean the racks w/ my oven's S/C cycle, then)...

I have a...

Friend who collects antique waffle irons, he disassembles the waffle irons, places the aluminum grids on the rack of his self cleaning oven, then lets it clean for 10 to 15 minutes, lets it cool, then removes the grids and after a brushing with a brass brush, they look new, I guess they might melt if left too long!!
