But we already HAVE term limits. They're called BALLOTS.

I suppose the people of Mass. have been too stupid to see the truth all these years and those lined up right now, waiting 3 1/2 hours to pay their respects to Sen. Kennedy.

More baseless, insulting trash-talk from the right. Who knew?? I suppose it is all they have left in their quiver.

Did you catch Neil Cavuto on Fox "News" earlier today? "This is the end of liberalism in America", yadda yadda. Nary a word about Kennedy's achievements or legacy, just endless, fair and balanced disinformation and spin.

Meanwhile, in the reality department, News Corp. just posted a $1.7 billion loss for the last quarter, fully half of this loss was from Fox News. Advertisers are leaving in droves.

> Edward's passing signals the end of a political/social dynasty for those of us 50-and-up. <

Eugene, did you catch Robert F. Kennedy Jr's speeches at the last two DNCs? The best may be yet to come from that family.

Filling the vacuum

I don't think Mass. can go for very long without a Kennedy in office, As someone who grew up there, I know anyone who runs with the last name Kennedy will get elected. Old man Joe is still pulling the levers somewhere.

I will start by repeating what one of my friends once said -- in America, you will never hear someone referring to themselves as left-wing or right-wing... it's always someone else who is left/right wing, it's a pejorative term instead of a standard qualifier.

I will say this: you don't usually hear someone complaining (either left- or right-wing) about their folks being in office for far too long, do you? Strom Thurmond stayed for longer than Ted Kennedy, for example. And he wasn't the longest in service either, check the link below.

Apparently "term limits" is only for the opposition. Let's be consistent here, if you don't want term limits for your guys, don't ask for it, because once it's implemented, it will be implemented consistently for everyone on that level. Your guys will be out just as fast as your oppositions'. Would be even more interesting if it didn't grandfather anyone: you want term limits of what, 2, 3, 4 terms? Anyone who has served that many will be out pronto, replaced by new folks.

I will say that if people were not happy with Kennedy's service here in MA, we'd put someone else in there, it's not like we had guns to our head to vote for him. Or like there's a lack of people here, Massachusetts, has, after all, the best politicians money can buy. :-P

Lest we forget, senate is one of the jobs were seniority can bring (not that it always does, but can bring) an awful lot of advantages to the performance: you already know how things work, you have given your constituents some proof that you are trustworthy and reliable etc. Possibly the worst thing that could happen is senators that can only serve one term -- they'll be always scrambling trying to find out the ropes and no one has any idea of who they are, what they stand for etc. In a place where you need to know who's on your side or against you when you introduce new legislation, I can't see why we would want to waste taxpayers' money with a revolving door job.

As for what supposedly happened during the car accident -- whoever did the investigation cleared Mr. Kennedy. When do you want to stop the investigation, after you investigate the Sheriff or the people who investigated the Sheriff or the people who investigated the people who investigated the Sheriff who investigated Mr. Kennedy etc? It's like people talking about OJ Simpson or the woman with the McD's coffee. Give it a rest, we don't know all the details, we won't know all the details, and if you don't trust what came out of the investigation you won't be satisfied no matter what.

Not a single person in public office is perfect, no matter if they are left- or right-wing, just accept that. You can tell a politician is telling lies because their mouths are moving. It's just what kind of lies they are telling, big ones, small ones, stuff that will cost you later or not, monetarily- or freedom-wise. If we start digging, we'll find out people who did much worse things, and they may be people you thought you liked. I'd say let it go.

Peace,
-- Paulo.

Okay i will fess up i am a CNN junkie. i ran the DVR. all day and just finished viewing Senator Kennedy's service. I know his service ran behind, dark caught them, no rain, at least in D.C, and beautiful lightning in the back ground at the grave. I thought running a little late and darkness "catching" them provided the family some privacy. Class, I tell you, just Class. I wish them some peace and quiet today. He served us well. May God Bless.

I do not think any politician, right, left, in the middle, should dine at the public trough for this long. We pay the salaries, lobbies fill the pockets, sweetheart deals are made and again, we pay. I know he dedicated his life, yada yada yada. If I was making that kinda scratch with that kinda power, I "dedicate" my life as well. Real tough, that is. As I said before, I could care less about party affiliation. I'd say the same about ANY repub. Now, as for the family, that's who I feel for. They lost a father, husband, you name it. He still was a human being. I think that was lost in my earlier post. With that I will not piss some of you off any more. That was not my intent.
