A very ugly way to say "term limits desired". Flies by honey, folks...
I will start by repeating what one of my friends once said -- in America, you will never hear someone referring to
themselves as left-wing or right-wing... it's always someone
else who is left/right wing, it's a pejorative term instead of a standard qualifier.
I will say this: you don't usually hear someone complaining (either left- or right-wing) about
their folks being in office for far too long, do you? Strom Thurmond stayed for longer than Ted Kennedy, for example. And he wasn't the longest in service either, check the link below.
Apparently "term limits" is only for the opposition. Let's be consistent here, if you don't want term limits for your guys, don't ask for it, because once it's implemented, it will be implemented consistently for
everyone on that level. Your guys will be out just as fast as your oppositions'. Would be even more interesting if it didn't grandfather anyone: you want term limits of what, 2, 3, 4 terms? Anyone who has served that many will be out pronto, replaced by new folks.
I will say that if people were not happy with Kennedy's service here in MA, we'd put someone else in there, it's not like we had guns to our head to vote for him. Or like there's a lack of people here, Massachusetts, has, after all, the best politicians money can buy.
Lest we forget, senate is one of the jobs were seniority can bring (not that it always does, but can bring) an awful lot of advantages to the performance: you already know how things work, you have given your constituents some proof that you are trustworthy and reliable etc. Possibly the worst thing that could happen is senators that can only serve one term -- they'll be always scrambling trying to find out the ropes and no one has any idea of who they are, what they stand for etc. In a place where you need to know who's on your side or against you when you introduce new legislation, I can't see why we would want to waste taxpayers' money with a revolving door job.
As for what supposedly happened during the car accident -- whoever did the investigation cleared Mr. Kennedy. When do you want to stop the investigation, after you investigate the Sheriff or the people who investigated the Sheriff or the people who investigated the people who investigated the Sheriff who investigated Mr. Kennedy etc? It's like people talking about OJ Simpson or the woman with the McD's coffee. Give it a rest, we don't know all the details, we won't know all the details, and if you don't trust what came out of the investigation you won't be satisfied no matter what.
Not a single person in public office is perfect, no matter if they are left- or right-wing, just accept that. You can tell a politician is telling lies because their mouths are moving. It's just what kind of lies they are telling, big ones, small ones, stuff that will cost you later or not, monetarily- or freedom-wise. If we start digging, we'll find out people who did much worse things, and they may be people you thought you liked. I'd say let it go.
Peace,
