Servicing a wc-7 frigidaire washer, need a few pointers.

I got a call from a lady who requested service on her frigidaire wc-7 washer. I believe this is the solid tub model with the agitator that goes up and down? Unit is avocado in color.

The complaint is no spin.

What are the usual suspects? Lid switch? I assume that the unit is serviced from the front? Is the front panel attached by screws or clips?

If it is in fact the solid tub model I don't think it would be the lid switch.  If it were that it would do anything else either.  On the solid tub you do not remove the front because it is a full cabinet.  There is a small rear access panel but for most work it has to be disconnected and turned over (front side down) to get under the bottom to the mechanism.  No spin is likely either a bad spin roller, loose clutch, or faulty clutch.  If it's a 1-18 model there is a front access panel that you remove with three screws at the bottom.  The same issues are likely with the 1-18 mechanism.

 

Assess the situation, take some pictures, and let us know what you discern for further guidance.

A WC-7 is a 1-18 Crown machine from 1976 and later (and a perforated tub), I think it's one of the rare late seventies model with a soak cycle rather than a knits cycle.

 

The lid switch on this model should stop the spin only so yes, a faulty lid switch is a possible cause if the motor doesn't start on spin. In some cycles, it will stop before the end of the agitation period.

 

I assume the owner of the washer tried to manually advance the timer to spin but maybe she didn't... Try that first. If the timer motor failed (a common failure and an easy fix on these), the washer will fill and agitate and keep agitating for a long long time or until you stop the machine manually!  

 

As for your question about the front panel removal:

There are 3 screws at the bottom of the front panel, once you remove them, you slide it down and it goes off.

I went to look at the unit today. Turns out it just needs a belt. It is in fact a perf tub model.

Anybody know the belt part #? As far as replacement goes it looks pretty straight forward. I would disconnect a few hoses and wrap the belt around the roller matic part and tension the belt. Anything else I should do down there as maintenance ? Machine is clean, hasn't moved since it was delivered new. Lives in a first floor air conditioned condo.

Any of you old timer repair guys do this job? What does one charge for such a repair? I was the only tech out of 5 that was willing to look at it.

Also, I forgot to mention that the service documentation can be downloaded from this website. I don't think there's a manual that covers this exact model but the later models like the WC-7B and WC-7G are very similar.

Also, the belt needs to have some deflection, about an inch. If it's adjusted too tight, it may cause some damage to the mechanism.

I was able to repair this unit. The job was pretty straightforward. I really wish I had that pair of special pliers for the hose clamps. 5 hoses to disconnect. I had to drop the motor just a bit to get the belt to clear over the pulley.
