Servis MK1 Supertwin

Nice to know they are still coming out of the woodwork, although you`ll need a good snowplow to get through to where it is at the moment!!!

First produced in 1959, could be just 50 years old...Yay!! 6lb wash & 6lb spin dry, heater & pump, 2,800rpm spin, solid spin basket for overflow rinsing, enamel top & formica worktop,

Lovely machine, brilliant colours, better watch out Mike as you know there is a closet Servis fan in Brum..........who might want it :-)

Servis Supertwin, now that brings back memories, mum had one when I was very little, would help out on a Saturday morning with the weekly wash, and god did that spinner motor scream loud. Can smell the boiling water full of Daz.

Hi Mike, That "Supertwin" is a fab machine, just luv the Green effect !! We must have the complete range between us..Blue Supertwin/Red Superheat/Green Powerglide here..nothing in Yellow yet...here's hoping for 2010

I have found a pic of that Goblin G twin tub that i was on about before, the one with the two-way wash action..although the pic i have attached is showing the machine being marketed under the "Summerscales" label.

I will see if i can find the other Frigidaire Mastertwin leaftlet & the temps on the Jetamatic !! Managed to pick up another AEG Lavalux the other month, although this is a weird one, as unlike my other one,if you put to much water in the spinner it starts running out, has a sort of safety release valve.

Colours

Hello Mike

What fantastic colours!!!! i feel Servis led the way on that point..........they look brilliant........

I have a Tri-ang working model of a Servis single tub with wringer and the main panel on that is red.

Brilliantly styled machines......definately a winner there

It was the MK3 model 70's, Just like the one in the photos with the metal lids, later plastic ones where used as next door had one a few years later.. my job was to sit on the drainer and turn the cold water off when the water run clear from the spin rinse, and stop it when the water stopped.

It’s life came to the end in about 89 due to the wash tub rusting at the base, lots of filler used but would still wash the kitchen floor.

We did have a Hotpoint empress before I was born, used to be in the shed, it joined the Hotpoint liberator on that fateful journey in the skip !! But we don’t go there, do we…. DAD.

Think the worst was I left the spinner running to long after the water was turned off and poor mum would have to spend a long time ironing out those hard set cresses.

Hi Gary,
Sounds like you have the toy version to the real-life size version i have - Servis Superheat complete with Guardsman Red door & wash lid.
Mike - looks like we just need a Red "Supertwin" to complete the full colour range set !!

Colours of Servis

Hi Keith, yes the red twinny came up a while ago, missed out on that one, just goes to show whats around

Gary, yes and "Sold on Superiority Throughtout the World" as the add said, pity it couldnt still say that!!!

Al, just testing, yes all our machines only had one speed but the Speed Queen versions had the two speed but no heater!!! nowthen where does this fit in?? was it a prototype maybe??? This was a control know found recently and it has both, two speed & heat...very interesting

There will be a price to pay for that ad Mike

when the lads from Brum see it LOLOL Mind you maybe they could come up with their own version - or would it be a case of "I wouldn't be seen dead materialising out of a Servis"?

Anyway .... the previous picture shows the control I was familiar with. I was aware that the SQ had two speed agitation, but did it have a two speed spin as well? For surely that is the implication of the knob .....

beautiful old twin tubs

I have been drooling over these pictures of old machines. Am convinced the supertwin III and MK3 model 70 would have same innards as my sadly worn out simplicity ST5W or the speed queen version. Are parts there also obsolete? Looking for post(tower)(agitator shaft support)10532 and shaft10495 Are these part #'s the same?

servis twins

It is me again, here in rural western Canada. Forgot to mention vintage of my simplicity ST5W it is about 1971. I have my two machines stripped down for repair so I should try to later send pics. Thanks for your interest. CHEERS

this is where i found it

I work for Leeds city council part of my job is aranging the clearance of void properties this turned up in a flat of an elderly lady that had died needles to say i saved it from the same fate as its owner .its in good condition there is a small amount of rust but thats all even the unusual double hose on the back is ok the washer is virtually silent but the spinner is very noisy .its safely tucked up in my shed till i get round to sorting it out.the lady next door told me the old girl stopped using it sometime in the 1980s when the council installed a laundry in the basement so its stood in the same place unused for almost 30 years

Hope it will have nothing to re-do and will pass first water test, mine did and was OK internally, I have got mine one year ago shipped from UK to Italy (where I live)...
Shipping was a little messy, infact due to clumsy shippers it got it's knobs and timer splin destroyed, but with the kind help of Austin Ozzie, and other members on here I got it up and running...will not thank them enough.
Now the poor machine is having a few issues, it's spinner motor won't run, it stopped out of the blue, trying to figure out what's wrong...
BTW noisy spinning is the norm with them like i heard it is for hoover TT, but it depends on how noisy it is....
These are beautiful machines, wash wonderfully and are solid, well built.
I am happy I own mine and will do my best to keep it up and running, it was worth every cent of the dear money it costed me...
The one you found is a little rusty but with a touch up of the right paint color will return new...it also have the original 2 chamber hose...
Had to fix mine with two separate ones as the original had a crack....this machine will make you happy, i am sure....
Congrats
