Sandy, Peter etc, please check in with us. Let us know how you are doing and whether or not you were affected by the storms.
I hope everyone is okay..

My

experience from this was a very turbulent Delta flight that circled the area for a while. Upon leaving the airport around 10 p.m. last evening, there were a few blown down overhead interstate signs being cleared off the northbound I-75 and a the resultant traffic jams. There were a lot of police and emergency vehicle traffic working their way through.

Fortunately, I understand the storm was short lived and there were no serious injuries.

No problems here!

We live about 50 miles north of Atlanta. Had a little thunder and lightning and rain. Everything fine here! We are suppose to get some rough weather this afternoon.

Looks like Atlanta and the east metro area got hammered last night as well the downtown area listening to the area news. Check www.cnn.com they usually have the most information on Atlanta.

Mostly Hype:

There were some localised problems, as others have mentioned, but most of the excitement was watching Channel 2's "Storm Tracker Two" team (I remember when they were just called weathermen), go into full drama-queen mode.

They bellowed warnings of gloom and doom, they squealed with excitement over the prospect of Atlanta getting washed out to sea, they assured us that earthquakes, locust plagues, and the return of the Yankees were all imminent. There were more computer graphics than NASA used to put men on the moon, none of which were remotely understandable.

What we got was some wind and some rain. Feh.

F2 tornado with 130 mph winds

hit downtown Atlanta last night. Georgia world congress center is completely devastated. Lots of damage to bi-centinial park and a lot of areas around Atlanta. Lot of high risr buildings have window damage as well. It looks like a war zone from what we have on the news.

Everyone I know from "the club" lives either north or south of the areas affected----which are primarily the west side of downtown, downtown and a few buildings out in Cabbagetown. It might have hung around Vine City for a bit longer if the kudzu hadn't choked it off.

Oh, and old Oakland Cemetery adjacent to Cabbagetown got wacked. A lot of "real old Atlanta" rests there. Enough to wake Peggy Mitchell from her slumber 'ah suwannee!

Some historical old monuments were severly damaged as were a lot of wonderful old trees.
