Does anybody here know if Sharp is now outsourcing their microwave production to other companies? Only reason I ask is because these are what I've grown up with. Our last one lasted close to 20 years. We replaced it with another Sharp that is a few years old now. It has some characteristics to it that remind me of a GE. For one the light does not turn on when you open the door, it only runs when the unit is running. Secondly it does that annoying 3 loud beeps when cooking time is done, and continues to finish said 3 beep even if you open the door. I remember using a GE microwave from the early 2000's at my high school and it did these exact 2 things as well. Just curious if maybe this model is in fact made by GE.

When my last Sharp bit the dust I bought a Magic Chef at Home Depot and it is identical to the Sharp. I like the Sharp best too. I use my MW everyday, and not just for warming things up. So far this Magic Chef has been just fine. I bought mine in White, looks like they may not have it in white now. And you can’t beat the price, at $59.99.

My mother has a black Sharp Carousel microwave that was purchased brand new in 1998 that's still running like brand new. I have a Frigidaire microwave that I bought last year and while it's not nearly as good quality as the Sharp, it works well enough.

I read somewhere that practically all microwaves are now built by a couple of Chinese companies.  It's amazing that sometimes you can a get bare bones one for $30 or $35 on sale.  Almost scary to think how cheaply these must be made.
