Wow that looks like it's is in great condition. I remember seeing them in Sears catalogs when they first came out, but do not remember the year. would be happy to help clean it up. What day are you planning to work on it. Did you get the dryer also?

He scrapped the dryer last week. Said he couldn’t figure out how to start it. And assumed it was junk. He almost scrapped this one too.
I have some days off In June to work on it. I would love to hang out again for a washer day.

Congrats!!! That’s too bad about the dryer. This particular model was introduced in 1989 and this one was built in 1990. As far as restoration goes on this machine I would just give it a good cleaning and put it to use. It still has the original drive coupling and I would take a look at that to see what condition it is in. If it looks good leave it as I believe this was the best coupling design. If it’s rough go ahead and replace it but be absolutely sure to get the pieces ALL the way on the transmission shaft and ALL the way on the motor shaft to keep from chewing either one up. Congrats again on a great washer and enjoy!

Can't see the full serial number in your photo but CX is 1990 manufacture. The next two digits is the week of the year.
I'm now off everyday. Let me know when you are ready to work on it. This Friday and Saturday doing Disney with a friend. June 11th tentatively having new windows installed on the house, that's the estimated date.

Fixing Yellowed Plastics
There is a technique known as “retrobrighting” in order to restore plastics back to their original color. I learned about it from a youtube channel known as The 8 Bit Guy. it works on yellowed computer plastics so it might also work on yellowed washing machine plastics. Consider watching a couple of his videos to see how he does it and it might work for your yellowed plastics too

Test run
I gave her a good scrub down snd a full test run. Passed with flying colours. No. Reason to tear her apart. Other than replace the yellowing part of the agitator with a new white one.

Hi Chris. I've seen retrobright processes done on plastics and they are effective. The issue I have with it; in my opinin; is due to it being a strong oxidizing process which will undoubtedly hasten the decay of the plastic. Not an issue if it's a computer case which doesn't have a lot of structural demands placed on it. However, the parts you're dealing with need to retain their strength.

Chris I feel sorry for the dryer he junked. I bet it was in working condition also.

Yes too bad about the dryer, but it sounds like it was broken as there is no trick to turning it on.
Luckily these dryers turn up far more often than the washers so you will likely find a good one in the next year or so.

I sure hope so. The washer runs like new. I just need to replace the top half of the agitator since it’s yellow for some odd reason. Ive scrubbed the detergent dispensers. They are almost white again. Have to find the top half of the agitator now
