PeterH, it's my first Kenmore!

Yes, Peter this is a first and I kind of like it. It's bare bones but it's got a neat variety of cycles and all 5 temp combos. It has a Permanent Press- Wash n Wear cycle, it lists both on the dial! All right you guys, get the sledge hammers away from my new toy LOL. How come I can't find them as old as yours Greg?? Hmmmm. I must be a 60's child.

Simpson Sears?

Robert mentioned that it was a Simpson Sears, what does that mean. I have never heard of that term.

Simpson Sears

In 1952 a joint company was formed in Canada. It was the Sears Roebuck Co from the US with the Robert Simpson Co in Canada. They opened a catalog based retail store which expanded to include department stores thereafter. They were simply known as Simpson Sears. Even today people still use the term, even though the companies split in 1978! The Simpson stores were purchased by the Hudson's Bay Trading Co and simply renamed "The Bay" which still exists to now. Of course, we still have Sears too which still produces catalogues from which we can still order from!

Here's a shot of it working. I wish I could say I ordered it from the Simpson Sears Catalog in 1967. That's the date stamped on the timer.

Eddy, thank you so much for the picture. Looking solely at that picture, it's almost like looking at the 1957 or 1958 Frog-eyed Kenmore friends in Dallas had. I loved that mchine. The only thing missing is the waterfall filter. Bob

Cool machine, Eddy! The “cool” or “cool down” portion of the Perm Press/Wash-N-Wear Cycle for machines of that era is my favorite of all time, and the spin does not have to work for that part of the cycle either.

Jaune, Consumer Reports also used to complain that the lid opens to one side, but does not lay flat. Only Frigidaire washers’ lids opened to one side and laid flat (nothing’s perfect, but Frigidaires were pretty close). I love Kenmores, too.

Very neat...the markings and lettering, combined with the "etchy" control panel, reminds me of the full-sized portable machines!

Re: Flat Laying Lids:

Actually Jeff, there are a few other Washers that had Flat laying Lids, besides the Frigidaires. The Westinghouse Top-Load, M.Wards Signature, Hotpoint {1950s, 1960s and 1970s} at least, Norge "Borg-Warner" and "Fedders" and the newer 1930s and 1940s, etc Maytag Square Wringer Washers, with a Hinged Lid, if you want to get technical about Lids laying down flat.
