Did this have anything to do with our conversation earlier?

That '70 CdV is TO DIE FOR. I wish you had informed me that you were selling it! What V8 did it have, the 429 or 472?

About a year ago, I *almost* had a '69 (with the 472), to the point of selling my truck to get it. Turns out it had quite a few problems of its own, which was apparently why it never sold to begin with, not even at $6500.

That 300 SEL 4.5 . . .

is quite rare! I always liked the 300 much better than the more common 280 because it has the self-levelling suspension, which is a nice touch. One question: why does it have the chrome wheelarch trim only on the rear? If I'm right that isn't factory M-B . . . usually I see it on both front and rear wheelarches. A friend of mine used to have a 3.5, but sadly it got rear-ended and he got rid of it. I do believe it was fixed however.

I saw a pretty decent '68 Galaxie two-door hardtop yesterday on the Santa Monica freeway, 390 with a vinyl top. The top needed replacing but from the side or rear made it look more like an LTD than a Galaxie. I always notice '68s because when I started driving in the '70s my parents had one. It was a small-block, but went OK, especially when the automatic transmission started to go and would really hold second for a long time! Stopping and steering were not strong points, but then that was pretty typical of '60s Fords.

They say....

drive'em ugly - and this was even a good day for the Trans Am!

1978 Y88 (L78 400 Pontiac) Gold Edition TA - bought it from a farmer in North Central Iowa about 6 or 7 years ago - haven't drove it in 3 or 4 years. One of the more 'innocent' purchases of my youth. "Oh, I'll get it restored, SOME DAY...". Fat chance - I've got a Unimatic to work on! lol

Austin-------the 429 was used from 1964 to 1967. Beginning in 1968, the 472 was used into the early 1970's on all but the Eldo (500CI from 1970 on)but in 1972 the horsepower they produced began to fall off. By the mid-seventies the full size models all had the 500 CI engine but the poor things couldn't even crank out 300 HP! Oh, and I can tell you all about problems with old Cadillac's-----.

58Limited----that '53 3100 step-side is really nice looking---they were really big trucks with a huge frontal profile---my favorite-----and I'm just gonna have to come and visit you for a ride in that fabulous '58 Riv.---I can just hear that engine purr from here! A friend of my parents had a b&w Cutlass like that---it was fast and powerful! Console with tach. and shifter. First convertable I ever spent any time riding around in.
I remember those '68 Fords, that green color was popular, but don't remember much else about them.

Hydralique----The rear wheel wells were deemed the most likely to recieve pebble damage kicked back from the front wheels. Might add the front ones later.

Ben---thats a good liking Firebird. Can't tell from the angle of the photo, but is there a bird decal on the top of the hood?

Ben, nice ride! I scrapped the twin to that car about 6 years ago. 1978,400, Turbo 350, Hurst T Tops, Y88, 8" snowflakes, posi rear, etc.
No title, had major rust around the rear spring mounts. My brother still has 75, and 77 TA's, I'll own another one someday.....

My Cutlass had the tach and console too - shoulda grabbed it before sending it to the junk yard. I have the tach though. The car was purchased early in the model year before the 442 option. It had an auto tranny.

The '53 truck was completely rewired and the local high school shop class painted it. It has a 1962 235 straight six (original engine was a 216 babbitted bearing straight six). I got my dad to choose the color without letting him know why. It was a complete surprise when I gave it to him.

I want a TA like that someday. I remember the high school boys driving them when I was in elementary school - always liked them.

for Steve, as requested -

The Screaming Chicken - or what is left of it, minus the dust and cat paw prints that always happen in storage units. This car is fairly solid - all the important parts have yet to be attacked by rust - but that doesn't delude the image of being ugly! This shot was taken this past November, just moments before I pulled it out of hibernation - eh, er, storage. The shot in the drive way was taken moments later.

Steve - your 70 Coupe would be a dream to drive. 1970 was a wonderful year for Detroit, and I bet that 472 has no problem with making some smoke clouds!

Kenny - I know how you feel, I've scrapped 3 other TA's to get the parts for the unforeseen restoration that won't be happening with this car. I've learned my lesson, and will only be purchasing solid Poncho's in the future! lol I'd love to see your brother's 75.

I love these car-picture threads, all beautiful guys. Steve - that Mercedes looks much better than the cel phone pic you sent. Now run out there and take a picture of the interior ;-) I remember them being so luxurious.

Ben, that Firebird is the same car I drooled over when new - I wanted one in the worst way. I should have saved all the brochures I collected. Does it run?

Greg - that is the one thing this car does well - is run. It is about a 1/2 mile drive from the old storage unit to my parents. I had a huge smile on my face when I took off around a corner and got it sideways on that sunny day after Thanksgiving (T-Tops out, of course!) - God, I love driving Trans Am's ;-)

BTW - when these cars were new, or now freshly restored, they are one of the best looking cars from the late 70's.

Ben: I had a friend in Tampa years ago that had one of those in a medium blue metallic. I used to love riding with him to go get lunch as we always "smoked some rubber" with it.

Gansky: The original interior was replaced by the previous owner, and a new (not to factory spec.) interior was installed.IMO it is not nearly as nice as the original. My mother had one (a 6.3) she purchased new and the interior was much different from this one. I have been talking to a local shop to arrange to get an original interior put back in it.
