I have just watched an hour long "infomercial" on our local (Roanoke) NBC affiliate (WSLS) from 10-11am called "Speechless; Silencing the Christians" by The American Fanmily Foundation.
Without a doubt this show was the most blatant piece of outright homophobic propaganda I have ever witnessed. Joseph Goebbels would be proud of whomever put this piece together. (Remember, it was in the midst of a terrible depression that Germany saw the rise of the nazi's!) The promoters of this agenda are clearly taking advantage of the economic down-turn to try to place blame on the "homosexual degradation" of our society.
Apparently this is also shown on (satellite) Direct TV's "Inspirition" Channel.
A website called "SilenceChristians.com" is constantly shown, and they strongly request the citizens wishing to protect their children and families from the global homosexual threat go on this website to get more indepth information. They even have a free book about the homosexual takeover of America they will send to you full of "facts" regarding the homosexual political agenda. (They fail to mention that many "Christians" do not subscribe to their homophobic panic.) The idea is to impart a sense of panic and urgency and this piece of propaganda certainly excells.
They are requesting that citizens from all walks of life, stand up and make themselves heard amongst the politicians and the national corporations that advertise with all the American media. Send letters condeming their support for the gay community and "so called" "gay rights". I urge all gay people to go on their website and view this entire hour-long programe so you can see the level of toxicity for yourselves.
I've never seen anything like it. Especially on NBC.
Since it is Sunday and the WSLS business offices are empty, I will have to wait untill tomorrow to call and rage on them. I will start with the sales department, since clearly they are desperate for income. Then I'll start raging on the national level by contacting the NBC (owned by GE) home office in NY.
Of course, the local station has a "disclaimer" at the end of the show, that the contents are "no reflection of their views" etc. Horse$hit.
Whether by e-mail or phone I am going to make tomorrow a very "special" Monday for a lot of people and as many senior executives as I can weasel my way to. Just let 'em claim that Gays have "equal" time.
I've never heard of a website called "Silence the Gays". But, why should there be---- when the pulpits from coast to coast have access to untold millions of citizens, and the media time is free for them---even tax-free.
I hope some of you will join me by getting on these websites and raging on them. Read the toxic information they are spewing. Tell everyone you know about it. Gay citizens certainly don't have the sheer number or the economic clout that the homophobic "Family Value" people have.
But if enough of us keep rattling their cages, we will be heard. Let 'em have it!
I still believe "hate" is neither a Christian or family value, and I know a few REAL Christians that do not agree with this homophobia (not the least of which is the gay Christian community here in America)---so they are not ALL bad.
Go ahead, let 'em have it!
