Was out shopping for dryers with my friend. Helped her 2 years ago replacing her 20 year old Maytag Performa set with a washer (she ended up with a WP toploader). We fixed the Performa dryer last year (with a new idler pulley which had come apart) but one of the dryer fins broke off and she decided it was time. Had by default decided on a WP (though she prefers side-swing door) and wandered to ABC Warehouse (local haggle-price appliance store). Found one, was all ready to go when she noticed the sloping top. Turns out all WP rear-filter dryers now have a more-than-subtly sloping top that makes you go "but don't you fold clothes on it?" Just that quick ended up with a GE..had to agree with her. Clearly they can economize a bit on the top by adding the slope but it really seems like a dilution in ease-of-use.

Slanted top?
What a stupid design!

And that Perfoma dryer fin breaking?
Another cheapening of the quality of newer appliances!

My 39 year old DG482 Maytag's fins are solid as a rock.
