I agree that 1942 is too early, which is why I indicated a less precise "'40s."  Most of the pre-war durable goods still had a '30s look to them, and it wasn't until manufacturers had caught up with post-war demand and retooled toward the later '40s that the sleeker designs started showing up.  Same with cars.
