We have a nice plastic (or plastic/rubber) covered wire rack that's meant to sit in the sink. However, it's riddled with smoke smell (not apple wood or something nice, either!). We tried soaking it in a baking soda solution, then tried a bleach solution. Neither worked.

Has anyone had luck getting rid of smoking odors in plastics or the like?

I cant help but wonder if they brought that rack home from the transfer station...gasp...ya shoulda smelled it before you took it home!!

Ha, ha, ha. Very funny. Look who's talking--- he who hasn't cracked open his Communion envelopes yet! And besides, it's old and oh-so-gay PANK! The rack, I mean!

Hey Mike- Rich did get it at the TS, but his nose hasn't been quite the same since the chemo. Actually, neither of us smelled it until I hit it with hot water while washing a pan. And, no, it hasn't gone through the dw yet. We'll have to put it in the next load!

why oh why am I not surprised. What goes to the transfer station stays at the transfer station,.....anyways I am willing to bet that from now on you will smell it before you take it....oh that could be taken so many ways....

I have noticed that some plastic bags had a smokey/oily smell...they are, after all, made of petroleum.

Dishrack. That is a new one. Try Massengil. Claims to work wonders.

I miss you two cheap asses!

Well, Booby, we coulda all had dinner together at the all-you-can-swallow a couple weeks ago when Ron was up, but Matt called after hearing from you and said you were going to hook-up his new d/w. Mary Jane and Carol were looking forward to seeing you guys!

A get-together? In "mud season?" It would have to be indoors. We'll have to see if we can schedule something, but it won't be super soon! Or, Ron, were you volunteering to host one in RI?

Chuck

Chuckie, dear, how about putting it in a large plastic bag with some artificial scent like a "stick-up" or an air freshener or some garden herbs. Maybe even a bowl of vinegar or potpurri.

If the smell has been picked-up from the ambient /surtroundings, maybe one can substitute a more pleasant smeel for the exisitng one.

Sorry to have missed the all you can swallow, Chuck. It would have been fun. We'll catch up soon. The damn d/w is still not fully hooked up. I bet the smoke is so far into the plastic nothing will defunk it. We'll find one in Brimfield and Ron can make the vendor cry.

Well, hopefully I get there first. I'll have him close to crying, but he'll feel good about giving me a deal, even though he's taking it w/o KY!!! LOL!!!
