So Close, Yet So Far.....

As everyone here knows, I'm looking for a specific Amana fridge. Mid-'70s, White, top-mount, with a particular trim variation.

And as everyone also knows, Amanas have shown up with the wrong color, wrong trim, or a million miles away.

Today, I found the The THE Amana - right color, right trim, everything.

Problem is, it's very rough, and it's leaking water. It is, however, free.

I think it's more of a project than I want to take on, but at least I now have this photo, to show everyone that the variation I'm looking for does exist.

My Two Cents . . .

If you are really, really set on this one specific box then you should go get it. Paint can be fixed fairly easily by any autobody shop, particularly in white. However interior plastics and missing shelves are quite another matter and this one looks complete and whole. If it proves to be too much of a project then you could at least part the thing out and have a stash of goodies ready for when another comes up. I've seen too many cases of good working older refrigerators that have been consigned to the garage at some point and lost their interiors to hold kegs, or handles broken and doors dented by errent bicycles or other garage detritus.

Free Amana Refrigerator

I would say this one is priced right, LOL. I would skip it, these Refs weren't that great to begin with so it is diffidently best to find a well cared for example if you want it to work for long, I can only imagine what the evaporator drain pan looks like in this ref.

I'm with hydralique... especially at this price, it would be worth it to pick up for parts... it looks so complete, and next thing you know, a really nice condition one will show up... but missing some of the impossible parts. It is definitely on the horizon, it will show up one of these days!

Looks to be complete. Leaking water is probably a plugged drain, easy fix. And the price IS right..........

Interior wlll need a nice cleaning, the exterior....well...hope it can be done something, pretty rough indeed, gotta be honest....
Water leaking...if it freeze up to make frost and water, then conpressor and everything shoukd work, I assume drain pipe out of place, or bad seals and over-frosting resulting in condensing pan overflowing.. Am not really learned about refrigerators, nor especially this kind, just assumptions...
Much will depend on how high shipping will be...but even true that it is offered for free, cannot really say anything about that....

I do have to agree that refrigerator interior parts are very difficult to find and if this is good, it's worth considering. As for the exterior, the doors would be easy to remove and repaint; maybe you could even take them to an auto body shop for a really professional job. Best of luck.
