So I picked up a dryer today...

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

This will be a prized addition to my harem (that's for you, Geoff!) on par with the 906's which I will finally be posting pictures of after fighting a battle with a defective card reader and a partially corrupted memory card. It's coming, Brian!

And for those who are wondering what happened to the matching washer, her Mom used it up to the early to mid 90's when she bought a A9600 washer to replace it. Oh well!

WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOO!!!
i'm so happy for you. thank you so much for sharing this beautiful treasure!!!

:o)

Congratulations!!

Wow, Drew this is a stellar find!!  It's hard to imagine that a treasure like this was hidden away for so long.  I am glad that you were able to recognize it and save it - imagine what might have happened if you hadn't been there??

Have fun with your new (and yes it is new!) find!!

Aferim!

I'd catch sight of a new appliance crate like that once in a while in the '70's and my imagination would go wild. I still have a fantasy that somewhere out there is a "Raiders of the Lost Ark" secret warehouse with crates and crates of vintage machines waiting to be discovered. You have just lived that dream. Thank you for the post and the pictures.

The ringing of your dryer bell...

was more beautiful than a hundred symphonies...

Truly GREAT!

That's really awesome Andy. First the 906s, now this. I think the appliance gods are smiling on you, which they should be. You have earned a lot of positive karma in things that you've selflessly done for others here over the years, and now its time to get something equally cool in return! I am very happy for you, also happy that the dryer landed right where it should be.

Happy brand-new vintage laundering Andy, from a true fan!

Great find! New in box after all these years! Yesterday, I just got the original box for one of my Frigidaire microwave ovens from the guy who sold it to me two years ago. He recently found the original box (whick didn't even fit in my car's trunk!) and he offered it to me. It takes a lot of space but I have to keep it!

Ignorance and stubbornness are such wasters of time and life and joy. The Electronic Control Maytag is one of the best dryers to operate on 120 volt service, not because of the speed, which it does not have because of the low wattage heating element, even on 240, but because of the sureness of the electronic control. When I moved to my Greenbelt house, I did not have a 240 volt line for the DE806 so John walked me through putting a Maytag washer cord on her and I used her that way for a few months. Since I moved in the fall, I backed her up to a hot radiator to provide extra heat and dried clothes perfectly, even peppermint press shirts and pants until John put in a dryer circuit. Even when not running, the whole cabinet stayed nice and warm.

That poor woman, a brand new DE806 in the garage and she has to line dry her whole life. They should have hooked the husband up to a 220v line.

(BTW, wouldn't that chrome strip indicate no later than a 1971 vintage, thus making it 43 years old?)

WOW Andy, just WOW!   A truly incredible find!

I agree with Gordon.   You have been selflessly doing so much for others for so long, that the good karma is coming back around to YOU now.

So cool!

CONGRATS!

Kevin
