So I've had that little Robert devil sitting on my shoulder

-all month. He's been yelling in my ear "RAISE that water level on that new Speed Queen". "Oh it's like washing with Wet-Naps" "Thats not vintage".

on my other shoulder the voice of reason ,"keep the low water level see if it works, try new things save water, follow Speed Queens engineers.

Well today I finally gave in to the Robert Devil. I figure I know more about laundry than any engineer out there today!

So after much hashing with Jason I doubled the water level. I am proud as it is my first tweek of an electronic system in laundry and it worked!!

The new machines are trickier today the pressure switches are more complicated than just backing off one ONE thats 1! screw!

There are 5! five FIVE screws on this baby and only 3 used wiring connections! The first attempt didn't work as they have changed the water switch since Jason's small door model. The large door model has a preset unchangeable pivot base. That leaves 4 screws in play, and just what do all those 4 screws do???

I expect to see some big sloshy water action in that machine mister! Or else!

Yes I did a load tonight

and it was big and sloshy! The new water level stays, everything came out rinse fresh!

I'll have video now that I have Premiere loaded up.

Well back to that puzzle, there are 4 adjustments you can make- Oh Supersuds is correct on the model number there! AFB50RS BTW now-- there are 4 possible adjustments. On the two contact points of the spider you can back off (turn CCW) the gap so that the spider has to travel farther to make contact. ( This is what you did on those old Singer pressure switches) OR you can stiffen the diaphram but turning in (CW) the two adjustable legs of the spider. Marked "P" on my picture.
That makes the spring linkage to the spider stiffer so the diaphram has to push harder to make contact. In order for the diaphram to push harder the water level has to be higher.
But there is some timing mechanism in this set up as I first opened the gap on one contact and pushed in on one point and the machine went into a lockdown with both WASH-RINSE lights lit. It wouldn't start stop or begin a cycle. So the board detected something. After playing around I find you have to adjust the contacts or the points in pairs exactly the same amount. And if you see on the schematic two voltages are sensed at the board from this pressure switch not one so there is some kind of comparison going on in the brain of this machine.

Jason said he had to adjust his two screws 1/4 turn to raise the water, I find my switch is alittle different on this Wide Door machine and to get water to the door glass I had to make 2 full turns in on the spider adjustable legs. I only backed out the contacts 1/4 turn.

So far I think its a wonderful washer easy to operate. It does a long highspeed 1000 rpm spin at the end. And it really sloshes the clothes around.

Next week: The Sweatshirt Test!

Jetcone i am glad you got the machine to work, more to your liking. I think you will be more satisfied with it. alr2903

Jon, Congratulations on the modification. It's not a matter of you and the engineers knowing about laundry; it's what the bureaucrats are laying down as standards for manufacturers to meet or exceed, results be damned. If you will remember, they tested dishwasher performance with clean dishes at DOE, EPA, SOB or one of those places.

I don't know what kind of magic happens in my Mieles, but loads washed with just Tide HE and STPP have this super fresh, almost ozone-tinged fragrance like the air near a waterfall when I take them from the machine.

oM MY MIKEY!

Mike you big tease! Look at that tsunami! Oh and a ZUG my favorite unseen machine!! I've GOT to smuggle one into this country!!!!

I do have before shots now I must take after shots. I do slosh but not like that Zug can. I must measure but am guessing I went from 2 1/2 gal/fill to 4-5 gal/fill.

Malcolm do you have a SQ??

SQ Imperial

Yes, I bought the Speed Queen Imperials in Stainless Steel. Awesome machines.

How high is the water level after your adjustment? Did you bring it up to the glass door or higher?

Malcolm
