well after 4 months of liking my new LG it has broken. Started it up, filled with water and just sat there counting down a few minutes when an LE error code showed up.. LE is a motor failure. I unplugged it for a few minutes, tried again, same result. I called LG customer service, I had registered it, but they couldn't find anything, so I gave the serial model no etc.. and she created a new file. She told me to unplug it, press the start button for 5 seconds which I did,, same result. She went onto their system to book a repair and I was told nothing was showing available for my area on their system for the two authorized repair agents in London. So she told me to call them and give them my (their) file number which I did. I call the first number and it seems out of service. I call the second number and give the woman their the LG CNN number and she tells me they are unable to look that up and need the RN # directly from LG.. before I finished that call I asked her how long if'n when I get this sorted out it would be before they could come and fix it.. at least a week. geezus.

So I call LG back and explain what happened, had to do it twice to make the customer service rep understand what had transpired. She asked me for the serial and model # and I said I had just provided that on my previous call barely 45 minutes earlier.. she finally found it.

Now I have to wait up to 48 hours for LG to call me back with an appointment..

I'm spitting nails and vibrating as I type this I'm so pissed off. I can't believe it.. how many things have broken this year,, our central air last week, still haven't got that replaced, long story on the shitty service I got from one company.. etc.. maybe I should write a book..

There's nothing left to do but laugh I guess... have at er

And thus my decision to rebuild my 2005 Maytag top loader when the transmission failed at 15 years. No printed circuit board, easily bypassable water temp energy saver, actually cleans things in one cycle.

Sorry you’re having this sort of failure both on the washer and with LG support.

Out of the 23 different washing machines I’ve owned in the last 48 years the LG FL I bought in 2015 was one of the biggest disappointments and waste of money.  And the half dozen or so times I called their customer service was equally disappointing.  Most of the time they weren’t even familiar with the info in the owners manual.

I used to really like FL’s, but my experience with an LG FL changed that opinion forever.

Pete, I sure hope that you’ll have better luck than I did.  LG is dead to me.

I think I've read that LG's customer service leaves a lot to be desired. So I will avoid them for my next washer purchase (which may never happen anyway).

Then again, I have a washer collection that includes four Miele front loaders, one Frig FL, several top loaders including vintage GE, Maytag, etc...

Goodness, what a nightmare you are in at the moment. I hope all these things get resolved soon.

I was thinking of buying a 17kg capacity machine LG sells here. It would be great for washing duvets etc. They don't get washed really well in my Siemens. The LG is a North American sized machine. But such stories as yours make me doubt about it.

@foraloysious

Treat yourself to a speed queen front loader I found one on eBay it was a super bargain and it washes duvets and dog beds wonderfully and its repairable if needed, The only good thing about LG is their looks they make super smart looking machines but as we know what's the good of looks when it doesn't work. Decided a long time back I would never have another one could not do with aborted spins and water hammer in the pipes ...

Sorry To Hear About Your LG Washer Problem

Hopefully it will get fixed quickly this could be fairly simple, since it is only 4 months old the factory warranty will take care of it, don't get suckered into buying an extended warranty, service personal get big spiffs for selling contracts when doing warranty calls, if they push this tell them to take the machine back and buy the machine you should have bought in the first place.

Where and when was your machine assembled ?, We are not seeing any South Korean LGs any longer most are Chinese and I understand that they started a hasty assembly in the US [ in non-union plants ] to get around the washer tariffs the US imposed on full sized FL washers.

Made in Vietnam of all places.
The service does suck.. Here I have to wait up to 48 hours to find out if I'm even going to get a service call in two weeks. With my luck that will stretch out to even more Plus I have to think of mold growing in the inner basket. Obviously I've dried the inner drum and always leave the door up.. but it can happen. May have to add some bleach.

The drum is spinning freely and easily like it's not even attached to anything. Does anyone have one to see if that's how there's is when it's empty.. I can't remember

Samsung customer service is no better, and that includes small things like cell phones.  I've read enough bad experiences here about Korean manufacturers that I won't even consider any Korean appliances.

If Sears, the Generalissimo Francisco Franco of the retail world, ever leaves its death bed for the great catalog warehouse in the sky, maybe a lot fewer people will be duped into Korean products that have been badged Kenmore.  Even if the Kenmore brand is sold off like Sears did with Craftsman, people may be less inclined to purchase that brand without the knowledge that Sears stands behind their products -- such as that circumstance may be these days.

I think I'll start planning for a SQ FL machine in case my Neptune develops any serious issues that are beyond my scope and parts/service are NLA.

According to LG:

"An LE error code on the washer's display indicates that the motor is locked, possibly due to a heavy wash load. Large and heavy sized loads will put a strain on the motor, causing the LE code to occur. Performing a reset on the washer will normally resolve this error with a reduced load size."

One wonders if their motors are actually fit and able to handle these sorts of loads...

Re: Reply #6

I have a set of very nice heavy weight bath towels from Pottery Barn.  I could NOT wash those towels in the LG FL that I owned.  That SOB refused to go into a spin with those towels, no matter what spin speed I selected.  And I had to install water hammer protectors on the inlet faucets and it STILL would cause water hammer.

Using the extra heavy cycle was out of the question.  The machine would let in about a quart of water and proceed to tumble for 24 mins. with a virtually dry load of laundry, then let in maybe 3 gals, if that of water and tumble about another 5 mins, then proceed to spin, rinse, ect.  There was no way these clothes were getting clean.

I now have a basic Roper TL that I paid $399 for.  Those heavy weight Pottery Barn towels wash, rinse and spin dry beautifully in 34 mins flat.  No water hammer, no refusal to go into a spin and an adequate, yet not wasteful amount of water assures every load is clean, rinsed fresh.

I believe that the new FL’s are poor performers because of all the useless and seldom used cycles, making people feel like they’ve bought this incredibly sophisticated machine, when in fact most users would be better served by a machine that allowed the user to SELF SELECT the wash time and speed and spin speeds, along with the wash and rinse temps.  Too much computer control of the machine with all those specialized cycles which allows the user zero control and flexibility.  Let me set my own damn cycle thank you.

From now on its basic BOL for me.

Sad

That is sad to hear. My grandparents have had their LG with no issues for 12 years. My aunt has one that is at least 15 years old and just recently had a board replaced. One suggestion is to try and unplug it over night and see what happens. Our Duet needs this on occasion when it has issues spinning. No idea why. Hopefully they step up to the plate and resolve this issue. Good luck, and keep us posted.

LG Service

When I purchased my LG 3900 pair the top panels were dented in shipping, along with the front panel on the washer.  One phone call to Appliances Connection and LG was right on it.  All parts were in stock and they were replaced by a local technician the next week.  LG also contacted me twice to ensure that the job was done to my satisfaction.

For my Next washer

I was torn between Whirpool/MT - Electrolux or LG. I like the way the LG and Lux wash better than WP. They all have heaters which I want. After reading your LG horror story, it sounds straight out of the mid-2000s when LG was becoming mainstream and people weren't able to get service on them. I thought all that had changed and it was easy to get service on them.

I thought they were all made in SK. I had no idea other countries were involved or even that they were assembled in the USA.

Hey, I know how you feel about things breaking in a row. I had a long rant here a while back about hating owning my own home. It was the refrigerator, then the HVAC needed repaired, then the water heater went out.......and something else I forget what it was.

Mark,

I agree I have been torn also. I like the idea of buying WP/MT because they are an iconic American company with a long history. I also like the look and features of the Electrolux. BUT what I don't like is WP/MT now have plastic inner door windows and it seems they don't spin between rinses on many cycles. The Electrolux also doesn't spin between rinses on at least the normal cycle and all other cycles the very short burst spin doesn't seem adequate.

I believe most LG washers are now assembled in the USA and their higher end models are still made in South Korea. LGs are known to be excellent rinsers and they have nice long intermediate spins. Reliability and service for the most part is excellent, at least based on my family's experience.
