So yesterday afternoon, Davids parents arrived. We had cocktails with party mix and nuts, followed by shrimp cocktail. Dinner was Rib eye steaks on the grill, mashed potatoes, asparigus, mushroom gravy. Here is the dinner dishes loaded. Not a very good use of space, still have a learning curve on this machine.

That is stunning. I have a friend in the appliance business, maybe he could turn me on to a vintage machine. I have a feeling pickings are slim in this area, since you got yours from out of town. Lets see...pink, yellow, turquoise, copper, charcoal, Frigidaire, General Electric, or Kitchenaid? One things certain, it will be a portable.

Thats the nicest Whirly machine I've seen, as far as console arrangement is concerned. The fact that its a pop-top gets the flat-ware holder out where water can attack it's contents from all sides------- instead of that arrangement the F/L's have with the flat-ware on the door. Duh. One whole side doesn't get any spray.
Actually, with this arrangement you could move the flat-ware basket around wherever you want it.

Thats a really nice machine.

Because the lower wash spray is so powerful, the small white bowl sitting on the left side of the lower rack can actually be loaded under the larger white bowl, provided the rack pins hold the large bowl slightly above the smaller one. John does it all the time and both bowls always come out clean. The spray is actually strong enough to force water over the curve of the small bowl to scrub sticky dried stuff out of the larger bowl. Older WP dishwahers are really powerful. Even mine that was made in 1989 still uses 2.2 gallons each time it fills and that pump really keeps a lot of that water flying around in the tank.

You have a wonderful dishwasher and I hope it gives you long years of service and a lot of fun. The lighted backsplash is dramatic and beautiful and gives an extra lighted work surface, or a great place to rest your elbows, read the newspaper and sip your favorite reading libation.

Thanks for the tip. I've been trying load both my dishwashers as if they were top load Kitchenaids. Just from that stand point if you could load a topload kitchenaid you maximized space and wash a huge load of dishes (aka a bob load) with still getting the best results. Could you also post the model number to your machine. I would love to try and look up your use and care manual on the whirlpool web sit

What is actually holding up the upper washarm. It looks like it is hanging in thin air. Also does the arm get in the way of loading? Is this a good cleaning machine?

The upper washer arm sits on top of a "cone/colume" of sorts. Yes, it does clean very well, There is a sticker on the side of the machine, which i tried to take a picture of but didn't turn out, It's a quick operating guide. It states to use short cycle for Normaly soiled dishes. That is the cycle I've been using. I haven't tried any of the others yet. Short cycle is R,W,R,R. Total time 22 mins. If you let it go through the dry add another 28 mins. So total it's 50 mins. I am just amazed that in just 22 mins everything is very shiny and sparkling.

But with the wash arm under the top rack, your Whirlpool dishwasher has a much more versatile loading pattern. The KA top load portable my mom has in her apartment is not fun to load, although in most cases any dishwasher is better than no dishwasher. In that machine, you have to be careful where you put things like Corning Ware 1.5 saucepans so that they do not block water to the glasses in the top rack. I run into this situation because it takes mom a while to accumulate a load. She only has a microwave so she has Corning Ware and Visions pans that are used for oatmeal in the morning and soup at noon. She even manages to cook Rice-A-Roni in the MW. She soaks the pans and rinses the food out and stacks stuff in the DW for a week or so before I reload it and connect it up to the bathroom sink and let it go through its cycle. The fold down upper rack is screwy also because dinner plates, unless loaded in certain areas and tipped forward, hit the top rack and keep the lid from closing completely. I don't think you have all of those water blocking loading problems with your Whirlpool.

We have one of the early 60s Whirlpool top loading portables with the single, tubular black Bakelite wash arm at the bottom and the Gorman-Rupp pump. It does not have the divided lift up top rack. It has a side to side sliding top rack that is a little over half the width of the tank. This helped make loading easier. The empty space beside it would hold large bowls and pans on the pins at the sides of the rack once it was completely loaded and the rack was all the way to one side.

I don't think that my instruction book would help with your machine. My dw is a 1989 front loader with the Power Clean filtration system, but feel free to ask questions; I might be able to find information in old service manuals and John knows all about them; even had one. Tom

Thanks for the tips, yes, I know I don't have to load either my bosch or this whirlpool in the Kitchenaid topload manner, but I do so to get as much in as possilbe.

The reason I wanted your model number of your whirlpool was to just read the use and care manual. It's fun to go through the whirlpool website and see how many older models I can find and what their styling was like. that's all
