So the New Collection Begins Today

Just ran out this weekend and picked up this almond (yuck) 806 Maytag. With a little cleaning and quick tune up, should be running fine in no time. (the woman I got it from says it works like a tank)

I noticed that the felt gasket above the belt motor underneath had split and was hanging out above the motor. Are these gaskets easy to find and replace?

Anyway this 'Tag will be replacing the dreadful frontload machine pictured that came with the house we are renting until we rebuild or buy another home. I am so unimpressed with its cleaning ability (make that inability) and that it washes in less than a tablespoon of water.

Will post more pics as I make more progress with my collection. Maytags aren't my fave, and this one certainly isn't very old, but it's a start!

Personally, that is a GREAT start on your collection! Even if you don't like the color, it's the top of the line washer maytag offered for that Era. So to me, that's a very good starting point for your collection!

Well Todd, that is a fine machine to kick off the new collection!

 

In their CU heyday, Maytags were top rated for efficiency.  Of course, they used less water than other makes due to their smaller tubs, but in times of drought your 806 is a wise choice for a top loading machine.

Why do these Maytags run smaller? When you take one apart is it obvious?
What did they have to do to later increase capacity?

Todd, congratulations!!!  I see the 806 as a good omen for better things to come!!

 

As for the Duet, do not use the Normal cycle, it uses the least water--designed that way.  Use the Whites cycle and adjust the wash tempt to what you need.  If there's a bulky items cycle, use that too.  If there's a sanitize temp, use that for anything you'd normall wash in hot.  gives outstanding results.  Detergent concentration in smaller amounts of water is what cleans well!!

Hi Todd, Good find with the Maytag 806. They have always been a favorite of mine. I still like KM/WP for sound changes etc. Maytags are very quiet machines. I know you will enjoy it. The only washer I have left from all that I collected over the years is my Maytag 806. I can't quite part with it yet. Our daily is a Maytag Neptune (Samsung) front load. It is going on 10 years and still going strong. It does a good job. Front load machines need a good detergent and if on a well alittle more. I hope things are looking up for you and your partner. Help with Vintage

I know this machine can't be very old, but I am not familiar with how to read Maytag serial numbers. It's an LA806, serial 736211 EJ. Am hoping someone can help me put a date on this.
