Soaking with a TL Speed Queen

My 9 series SQ has a soak option. That's great and all, but I have to make sure I'm home 37 min later to add detergent to the main wash. I've tried adding double detergent to the soak, but it spins out most all of the detergent and the main wash is left with very little. I've thought about adding some liquid detergent and water to the softener cup and running a second rinse, but I've held off on that, because I don't want to make a mess of things. Have any of you ever put liquid detergent in the softener cup?

I stirred together a small-load dose of Persil Proclean 2 in 1 with some very warm water and put it in the softener dispenser once, just to see if it would work. It dispensed, but you’ll definitely need to clean it out afterward. I pulled the dispenser and rinsed each part under the flume as it filled for the next load.

Quite honestly, I’ve experienced great results just letting the machine agitate for a few minutes, powering it down for 30-60 minutes, then restarting from the beginning of the cycle. Saves a tub full of water.

Of course, if you work on an oil rig you’ll probably want to spring for the extra fill.

not an off beat idea....years ago GE and even Norge used a softener dispenser disguised as a detergent dispenser for their Double Wash featured machines...

a Downy Dispenser Ball would probably serve the same need....

also depends on what you are using as a double dosage....I recommend something like Tide with Bleach powder.....2 full scoops will be more than enough to soak and wash in...

Tried a Couple of Ways

I put in liquid tide filled to line 5 into the tub and also filled the softener cup with liquid tide to line 5 for an extra large load.
This worked well, the softener cup emptied and the main wash had plenty of detergent. However, it was necessary to do a 2nd rinse. The first rinse still had quite a bit of detergent in it. So, with this method, you are looking at 4 tub fills. If I had to do it again, I would probably use Tide Powder or Oxiclean for the soak cycle. Ill try it again and update whether or not you would still need that extra rinse if using oxiclean or tide powder.

The second way I tried was just putting 2 doses of liquid tide to line 5 into the tub and nothing into the softener cup. The main wash probably had enough detergent to satisfy most people for a main wash cycle. A second rinse was not necessary.

Presoak on Maytag

The MT575 has a 10-minute presoak. Does not drain the water. Goes directly to wash cycle. Works great!

I can also pause the washer for the desired time (with lid closed or lid lock disabled) and then unpause for when longer soak times are needed.

Would Option 2 work better for u on SQ if it can be done that way? Sounds like it would save water and soap?

However, you would have to be nearby to unpause :-(

Not sure how the SQ handles power failures

But a remote controlled socket (one of these plug adapters with a remote control or - if you are equipped with some form of smart lighting system - one that hooks up to that) could work.

I know for sure there are some rated for 10A or even 16A operation over here.
Just make sure it can handle that and that the washer auto restarts after a power failure.

Commercial Laundry Soap, heavy soil,&hottest safe H2O temp?

Short version: Have you tried using commercial laundry detergent and the longest, most powerful cycle available using the hottest water temp safe for the fabric?

Longer version:

I purchased some of this HTD detergent (link below), which seems to work well with my 12-minute Powerwash cycle (MT575). I use 1/2 c. for a full tub wash and 1/4 c. for a half tub wash. Sometimes, I add either 1/2 c. or 1/4 c. (depends on load size) of homemade laundry detergent (mixture of borax, washing soda, Fels Naptha, Oxi-clean, and scent crystals) in too as a booster.

I have an alternate setup that allows tap hot wash for any cycle--the MT575 has automatic temperature control. However, I am not so sure ATC applies to the Powerwash cycle. Someday, I will retest.

Also, the SQ TC5 Normal "eco" is somewhat of a super cycle when heavy soil is selected. It agitates for 25 minutes. I could see where that could be useful. Is there something like that on your model that wouldn't require hands on from you?
