Vacuum hose that is! Get yer mind outta the gutter!

Seriously -- one of the hoses to my Kirby Classic is sorta stiff. Is there any way I can restore some flexibility to this hose?

It's not that big of a deal, I have another hose for it in great shape -- but thought I'd ask if there was any way to save this guy.

Stiffy softening - alternative..

Well,

I had the same problem some years back and tried a couple of quick fixes ( armor all comes to mind ) but none really worked. I think once the plastic starts to polymerize you either live with it OR - as I did - - - Take the hose unit to your local vac shop - for a modest price ( approx $1.50 a foot ) they can and will replace the entire hose using the connectors from the hose you bring in. ( in my case - it took 20 minutes or so ) - Great opportunity to walk around and look at all the new stuff. I took the opportunity to increase the length from the regulation Kirby length, to 12 feet - which made a world of difference in versatility forevermore - I'm still using it today some 14 years later. I've never been sorry for making the changeover, and I highly reccomend it to all that have Kirby Hoses that are becoming difficult to manouver. It's worth the few $$, and will give you incredible freedom from having the " screaming Kirby " following you around at close range. In theory, you could have the hose even longer, and it shoulden't affect the suction power at all.

Neptune! DUDE! I thought you picked that name for the Maytag product -- but you are really are a god and not a mythical one!

What an excellent and awesome idea! My apartment is two levels, in a building constructed just before the turn of the century. The high ceilings mean there are 18 steps between floors. My place is on the 2nd and 3rd floors. My procedure for the stairs has been to go as far as I can with the hose from the downstairs -- then go upstairs, where I have a second vacuum, connect up its hose, and come at the rest of the stairs from the 2nd floor. Along with that, I've acheived quality brown nose points with the landlady, because I vacuum the stairs from my door that go to the porch door. No more dredging out the big old industrial extension cord!

That hose is now on the table next to my car keys so I don't forget to take it to the vac shop tomorrow.

Here's to clean stairs, no extension cords, and no hernia's lugging these boat anchors with one hand while wrestling the hose and wand with the other...

Seriously, my Kirby has the optional 10 foot hose and it is a great thing to have with a Kirby.
