Bought a bottle of the new Somat Perfect Gel by Henkel. It's been sold in Italy for a few years, as I understand.

I'm pleased with its performance. Got everything clean and didn't suds-up like most other all-in-one products I've tried.

Thanks for sharing. I guess it proves that it is possible to make a non-powder detergent that does not suds all the way through the rinses like every liquid I have tried. I emailed Sun Products or whatever about the sudsing in the rinse when I tried ALL X2 he. In the reply letter they explained that the amount of suds was due to the type of soil. Well, yeah for suds in the wash. They cleverly sidestepped the suds in the rinses. I asked Tide about the same thing and the lady put me on hold while she searched for an answer, then came back and said that they had no record of being asked about sudsing during the rinses. After that load of crap came through the receiver, I used an antibacterial wipe to clean off the earpiece, then washed my face.

Sudsing

I visited P & G technical centre recently and it was the big issue that I brought up with them..."Too Much Sudz" and slow to rinse, i mentioned a couple of rivals, persil S & M and sainsburys own brand previous formula, which IMHO and having put them through the Ultimate test, all dropped the sudz on the first rinse!!

They went on to show me this whole lab dedicated to "Formula Sudz" they have batches of powder made up to represent what consumers want in different parts of the world, We (UK) like sudz, Japanese like a good white wash liquor and no sudz, and then levels of sudz, I was really floored, had never given it any thought other than whats comes out of our boxes...

The big thing at the moment is overdosing, particularly as here they are reducing the volume and making it more concentrated over the coming months!!!

I really like your dishwasher!

What a feeling you get when you can load every inch and know each piece will come out clean. Whats with the two spouts on the bottle. Is one for cleaning and the other one acts as a rinse agent? Good video as well

OMG ! the other pot and that pan ....

... water sprays can't bend, they haven't steers !
SLAP-SLAP, you get a really bad mark !! ;)

Ok, stop kidding ... Alex you're right, it works really great. I tried it even in my sister's Zanussi with the quick cycle (55°C wash/cold rinse/55°C rinse - warmwaterfill - 45 mins). Pots and pan get clean as in the "normal" 40+65°C cycle (yes, the intensive is 55+70°C)

Is your detergent dispenser water-tight ?? Check it when the pre rinse drains. In the machines I use(d) the liquid detergent always is spilled out before the prerinse drain. So I wait till the main wash fill, then I pour the detergent inside

Here's the italian counterpart, in the "vinegar-added" version ... PRIL !! Henkel really has done a mess with names . Our hand dishwashing liquid is Dixan like the laundry detergents. At least Vernel is the same :)

Oddly that new Calgonit/Finish gel you have has just been released here

Ciao

Mike,

It's interesting, isn't it? When I was an intern at Whirlpool/Bauknecht, they were just experimenting with new ways of refreshing laundry. Today, we have washers and dryers with steam. BTW: they also thought of using ozone.

John,

I don't know but I assume it's marketing. I once saw a liquid oxi clean product with a similar bottle with two spouts: the liquids started fizzing and foaming as soon as they came in contact with each other. However, there's no obvious reaction going on when both liquids of the Somat detergent come together in the dishwasher's dispenser - so I guess it could be marketing.

washing

Hi Alex, got it in one, its all about marketing, what I find interesting is the US guys have lots of additives, pre-sprays, bleaches, powders & fab cons, will speak for uk, while we have a great "all in one" powder (Ariel - IMHO) and take or please the fab con , but with say Ariel you know one scoop will get the job done, so why do we need pre-treaters, fillers, water softeners & conditioners.....the answer......because people want it....and will buy it....its the marketing "Add Onns" so while US goes to one option HE Tide....the EU is going to seperates...well some are!!!!

What goes around , comes around!!!

Will be back to grating ones own soap soon!!!the total eco option!!!

OMG ! the other pot and that pan ....

*lol* Yes, I always wondered why the American guys on here put casserole dishes, pans etc. in sideways - I thought these items could never become cleaned because water only sprays up and down. But it worked very nicely for the pan. The larger pot was actually tilted a little bit towards the plates.

RE: the dispenser. Yes and no, the cover does allow water to enter the dispenser during the prewash but it won't drain out until the cover opens. I wonder if those new B/S/H dispensers are water-tight. They should - otherwise these new tabs with water-soluble wrapper will turn into a sticky mess inside the dispenser while waiting for the mainwash.

Sore subject in the UK

Nothing I have used lately (read 12-18 months) has cut the mustard on my loads.

No matter what product I use there is always some problem that each detergent cannot manage.

Supermarket powders from McBride dont shift tea stains
Morrisons Cyclon/Somerfield struggle with starch
Finish sometimes does not cope with grease.
Tesco/Henkel tabs also like to leave grease.
Most leave a film on dishes despite salt and rinse aid dosages being varied.

I seem to be at my wits end rewashing stuff that used to come out clean.
The dishwasher itself is not at fault and has been maintained rigourously.

The mega cheap £1 for 1KG Calgonit seemed to be doing well on very lightly soiled dishes but on heavier loads it struggles unless a very heavy dose is used after a manual cold prewash and a good liberal sprinkling before selecting a no prewash 65deg cycle.
This also leaves a chalky residue on the load negating extra rinsing.

The new liquid seems interesting enough though. WOnder if Glist will introduce it here?
