A good friend and his wife moved into their new house this past weekend, and they sold the old washer & dryer with the house. That meant we needed a trip to the ole Sears Scratch N dent warehouse. The store is big, about the size of a Wal-Mart...all filled with big appliances and electronics....a paradise for someone like me! My friend Tim, a gadget freak just like myself wanted the busiest control panels!

The only problem was that we didn't get a perfectly matched set. They didn't have any matching dryers to the Ken olux front loader, and they didn't have any top control models in the washer either. So, we ended up picking up a Whirl-more dryer with a control panel on top that matched it close enough.

I'll hafta get a picture when the lights are out in the laundry room while these things ar running...there's LED lights all over the control panels! Looks like the control panel of a space ship. The washer's control panel has green LED's and the dryer's panel is red.

Actually, your friends ended up with the best pair--each unit being sttrongest in its market segment. The match to the washer only has a 5.7 cu. ft. drum. This dryer is 7.5 cu. ft. Makes a big difference in drying the big loads that awsher can handle.

Agreed, the top lint filter Whirlpools are tested and true, but the front lint filter models are just so much bigger. It's like our pair, a Kenmore DD and a Maytag dependable care. Simplest, most reliable modern washer with the most reliable modern dryer!

That is a nice set, both good performers. How do they like the front-loader?

The differences in the 27" (front filter) and 29" (top filter) Whirlpool dryers is really mostly personal preference and size/space considerations. The slight difference in capacity ratings is negligible and some argue that the wider drum and slightly larger opening on the 29" models are easier to load and unload and the larger diameter is better for fewer wrinkles. I have the Duet dryer in gas which is built on the 27" dryer format and a Kitchen Aid 29" electric dryer in the garage. I find that drying large, bulky items is easier in the 29" dryer as things have more room to billow and tumble and are less likely to roll into a tight ball.

So far, they've been really enjoying the set. They've washed about 3 loads in it so far and Melinda has been amazed at how totally quiet the washer is when it runs. She was also impressed by how little detergent was needed. Tim did notice the cycle times were a little long, but since they don't have kids, it doesn't bother him anyways...they don't do enough laundry that the speedy laundry is an issue. He said that the time is made up in the dryer though because the clothes are spun so dry in the washer that the drying time is nothing.

I'm gonna hafta try it out myself too. I've got some sleeping bags in my camper that need washing that I think I'll take over there tomrrow.

BTW, we found the scratches and dents: On the door to the washer is what looks to be a key scratch across the plexiglas panel. You can see the scratch on the dryer just below the door. Not bad though considering he paid $400 for the washer, and $325 for the dryer!!!!
