Something I discovered on Obama

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Dan, did you ever hear Obama unscripted? Can you say train wreck? How many times does he have to say "uh, um, uh" when trying to think on his feet? I happened to be home yesterday over the lunch hour to let the puppy run & I caught part of his town hall style meeting. Ouch. Not very good without his teleprompter and speech writer. I expected more.

As far as Palin, I though she gave a nice speech. I need to see more from her, but so far so good.

religion and politics

I realy believe that there are those ,like myself, who visit this website to escape from he "norm"including opinions, beliefs and thoughts regarding religion and politics.the Bible has been well known for being completely missinterpreted millions of times causing strife, even war among countries, readers and believers.

Politics and opinions are just like ass holes. We all have one of our own.No two are ever alike.

I truly believe and recomend ,to those whom this message applies, that we focus here on the items and interests that apply to this site which ,in itself,is unique and fragile. There are also members here who can be,and are, unique and sensitive to their own lifestyle, beliefs and opinions on subjects which do not have anything to do with the subjects spoke about here at (automaticwasher.org).I think its wrong to talk about those subjects here at this site because,as all of you here can see,it can cause strife among members who normaly get along and are glad to share knowledge with others here even get together and visit one another now and then.If this was my first visit to this site and I somehow read this,I'd leave,go to (opinions.com) and file a serious complaint.Fortunately,I've been here long enough not to even think of doing anything like that. But realy,I'm not pointing any fingers at anybody,I myself am no angel.I just think that we need to take our political and religious opinions and beliefs where they are welcome and share them with those folks in the "chatrooms"we visit. Not this one. That is what has become the "begining of the end"at other unique websites like this, now defunct.Thank you!

What I Found Most Interesting....

....Was right after the speech, after Palin accepted her applause and McCain got up on the stage with her. He hugged her a couple of times, and Palin tensed very visibly; her smile vanished completely both times. Now, I wouldn't necessarily want John McCain hugging me either, but I wonder if something's going on that we're not (yet) aware of? She looked like she wanted to put about six city blocks between the two of them. I have a feeling all is not well in McCainland.

These poll avearges are interesting to watch change daily

Good news from the daily polls,

Ohio has flipped over the blue side in the lastest poll released yesterday. Other polls released yesterday include Minnesota (which hasn't voted for a republican president since 1972) even with the convention here Obama has a 53% to 41% lead and Iowa shows even more of a lead for Barack at 55% to 40%.

It will be interesting to see what kind of convention bounce the red side gets, so far nothing, but it's too soon to tell. Next week should be interesting...

To listen to her

You'd think those horrible people who have taken government away from their people for the last eight years were democrats.
And that line on the Washington elite...
Well, anyone who falls for that is too dumb to help.
At least the conservatives are beginning to admit that their motivation is racist. I'd rather deal with an honest bigot than a politically correct lying snake in the grass.
How a gay man can vote for this filth is still beyond me, still waiting for a rational explanation.
Oh, well, the US Constitution was a great idea as long as it lasted.

Palin

I don't know anybody else, but I get a little uncomfortable with the whole "God is speaking to me" stuff. Let's leave God where he belongs...in CHURCH! Her religious views creep me out, and quite frankly even if I was Republican, I'd be very skeptical about having someone with such radical views yielding that much power.

I hear voices, but they are superior to the ones you hear be

...as are the Bible, the Qu'ran and the Torah.

It's the fools that claim to have exclusive rights of interpretation (read: twisting the message) of those that are particualry troublesome.

Rigid, unyielding thought is scary. Scarier even are those that believe "It's my way of thought or you have no right to live".

Rocketwarrior,

I think its a GREAT IDEA. I support it 100%. That is why I am totally opposed to Palin - she has been an active secessionist for several decades and is a member of a fundamentalist Christian group which wants to overturn the US Constitution and impose biblical law on the US.
The sad thing about so many conservatives is that, having decided that all democrats were 'unpatriotic' and 'tax raisers' in their youth, they now are electing 'conservatives' who have no love for the constitutional law which is the basis of the US. It takes a lot for people to wake up and see what's happening, especially when that waking up means accepting two unpleasant truths. One, your political 'home' has been taken over by extremists and, two, your only hope is grounded in voting for the opposition, whom you have hated and fought for years.

Keven, Life is a Cabaret

I suspect we are pretty much in tune. Basically through my wife’s church affiliation, I have social exposure to a number of pretty mellow, tolerant, laid back Christian people. They favor freedom of choice, gay rights, etc. You know, Garrison Keeler Lutheran types. But one of my main criticisms of such ‘moderate’ Christians is their failure to proactively deal with the extremes.

I sometimes think it is the age of my peer group. Most seem to have forgotten what we were marching for in the 60’s and just gotten kind of comfortable looking forward to retirement. Meanwhile, the religious right garners more power as moderates sleep.

The failure of religious moderates (Christian and Muslim) to deal with the extremes reminds me of the movie Cabaret and especially the scene at the outdoor beer garden when that uniformed blond boy stood up to sing ‘Tomorrow Belongs to Me’ and the main characters got in the car with the question, ‘Do you still think you can stop them?’ Forget reading all those books, just watch the movie.

I am a gay man first, then a Jimmy Carter Democrat second

I am an Obama supporter. What religion a person is should not matter in this country. I am personally not a Christian, and know that Obama happens to be one. I have read and educated myself enough to know what person I will vote for. The only thing that John M stands for is more of the same, The person he has picked for his running mate has kind of an iffy past from all of what I have read about her. Obama went to Harvard, and by far is who I will entrust my country to. I can't afford Ralph Nader right now. if John M is elected, we are all in big trouble, and Sara P being three heart beats away does not instil me with much confidence. Did you know that when she took over her home town as mayor that they were undebted, and at this moment, it is up to 20 million. Have we not had enough of that. More of the same.

The Media are too much a coward to ask the hard questions of this woman how has been foisted on us as a possible leader of the free world who is rabidly anti abortion. I guarantee no media person will ask her the tough question and then ask the even tougher follow up:

"Why do you think life begins at conception?"

Her answer odds are would somehow point to her religious bible thumping beliefs.

The follow up question should be:

"You are running to be the Vice President of all America, There are a great number of people who do not believe as you do, Why is your position the right one for them?

At that point she would stammer and indicate she believes in the sanctity of life yada yada yada.

As a non-christian I have 0, ZIP, NO, NADA desire to limit the practice of your religion, but I expect and REQUIRE that your religion stay in your home, church, mosque, synagogue or what ever. When your religion starts impacting my life I will in no uncertain terms fight back. You want a revolution keep pushing your crappy religion in my face and the millions of others that are tolerant, but not stupid.

Like James Carville told Wolfy just before her speech "nobody ever makes a bad acceptance speech" and that's all it was. Fluff and getting to know me and heck she was closeted for days while they knitted it together.
The meatier stuff will happen in her debate with Biden, now that'll be worth seeing.

One thing about Palin -

she can't be accused of being a Muslim: she likes pork way too much, espcially if the Federal government is paying for it.

Did you know that the State of Alaska recently distributed checks ($1200 I think, correct me if I'm wrong) to residents to help with high fuel prices? I'm sure that didn't come directly from Washington, but given the major earmarks Alaska gets they can afford this sort of largesse better than most states. I'm not trying to Alaska-bash here, just point out that regardless of McCain's emphasis on fiscal responsibility his running mate doesn't seem to share his viewpoint.

Keven,

The corollary of the anti-constitution aspect is the ridicule of politicians who have law degrees. What the Right seems to forget is that we are a nation of laws - it is the underpinnings of our democracy. A politician who is going to write and understand legislation must also understand the law, and the most direct path to that understanding is with a law degree.

It seems to be that presidents without training in the law tend to be less effective at getting legislation through Congress. Nixon is a good example of someone well versed in the law. He was despised by many but he was able to get a lot of legislation through Congress - before he was disgraced by Watergate - because he knew the law. And it's not just the piece of paper. People who do well in law school must have a firm grip of the language and logic. For some people this comes naturally. For others it's a stuggle. I think Bush is a good example of someone who would have a very tough time in law school. And other than getting war resolutions passed - which are more a matter of emotion than logic - he's been fairly unsuccessful getting his programs put forward. Probably just as well.

True, very true

I admit, lawyers are not very high on my personal list of people whom I respect. But there are some good ones and some of the best have been presidents. Think of Lincoln, think of Clinton.
The time to fight back against the christianists is now. If they succeed in getting McCain and Palin in, it is only a question of time before they come after us, as homosexuals.
The Nazis showed them the way.
The only thing which gives me hope is the reactions of the business and economic conservatives. They are seriously beginning to wonder if these two are what Wall Street really needs.
Still waiting for a rational explanation why a gay man could support these people.

Did you Mention Lawyers?

Speaking of lawyers, one of the things about “recent” government that flipped me out was the Terri Schiavo case. The stunt that the President and Congress tried to pull was, well, was just plain intellectually, and legally, embarrassing. If that is how lawyers are going to act once they get to Congress, then I am not sure if being a lawyer is much of a credential for the job.

But I agree, being a lawyer, if also being a person of high integrity, can be beneficial.

Before anyone gets racial, they should see the movie "CRASH" I think it came out in 2004 and had quite a few Emmy nominations. Cool flick.

On a lighter note

I got this in an e-mail this morning. Cute. Origin?
Things you have to believe to be a U.S. Republican today:

1. Jesus loves you and shares your hatred of the environment,
homosexuals, and Hillary.

2. Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush's
daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him, and
a bad guy when Bush needed a 'we can't find Bin Laden' diversion.

3. Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is Communist, but trade
with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony.

4. The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our
highest national priority is enforcing U.N. resolutions against Iran

5. A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own body, but
multi-national corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind
without regulation.

6. The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in
speeches while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay.

7. If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex.

8. A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long-time allies,
then demand their cooperation and money.

9. Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy, but providing
health care to all Americans is socialism. HMOs and insurance companies
have the best interests of the public at heart.

10. Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, but
creationism should be taught in schools.

11. A president lying about an extra-marital affair is an impeachable
offense, but a president lying to enlist support for a war in which
thousands die is solid defense policy.

12. Government should limit itself to the powers named in the
Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the
Internet.

13. The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but
George Bush's driving and military records are none of our business.

14. Being a druggy is a moral failing and a crime unless you're a
conservative radio host, then it's an illness, and you need our prayers
for your recovery.

15. What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest,
but what Bush did in the '60s is irrelevant.

If you don't send it to at least 10 other people, we're likely to be
stuck with more Republicans in '08.
