Cool Agitator Transplant

I am sure that agitator works better in a SQ than it did in the WH, the agitation of a ramp agitator in a washer with an indexing tub is not only pathetic but it makes you dizzy to watch it, LOL.

One of the AW members in Cleveland Oh. area has put a Km roto-swrirl agitator in a MT 806 that has a 50 cycle motor pulley on it and it is really amazing what an improvement it makes in the washing ability while actually being more genital on the clothing. I will try to get him to post a video as well.

Dan, what did you use to de-fin the SP agitator?

I have trimmed or smoothed agitator blades with a Dremel tool.I would like to see the Roto Swirl in the Maytag.And come to think of it-bet the Roto Swirls would have worked BETTER in the DD WP/KN machines than the shredder DA ones.

I used a hacksaw--wish I had a Dremel...it's really rough to say the least. Also use an electric drill to create starting points. If I ever do it again, I'll get a Dremel. Since it was an experiment, I wasn't too concerned on how Frankenstein-ish the SQ looked. It was a flex vane agitator--which made the bottom part easier.

Dan,
in step 5--where exactly did the 3 mounting screws come from because I looked on a diagram photo of the drive shaft and could not see where the screws are located? And, where exactly did you place the mounted screws to connect the SQ and WH agitators?

For step 6--I don't understand where you drilled the hole in the SQ agitator, where and how did you connect or attached the metal thread to the 2 agitators.

BTW, you don't have to use the bottom part of the fabric softener, just the upper area that look like a flying saucer.

Dual action agitator from an Amanatag in a Speed Queen?

On a related note: Because of what I assume to be some shared lineage between the current Speed Queen machines and the late Amana-designed machines, I wonder if a Dual-Action agitator from a Maytag "Amana-tag" "SAV..." model numbered machine might fit a current Speed Queen?

I am pretty sure that Amana didn't offer a Dual-Action agitator, but it looks like the Maytag "Amana-tag" models did. The link below shows a DA agitator from an Amana-tag model SAV2655AWW.

Gotcha, too bad you weren't able to encase the metal thread rod in a plastic tube-pipe to prolong rust, a little longer at lease. I can't wait for you to be able to make more videos.

I recorded a load with "Zote" soap flakes (since it's a hot topic in another forum) and 8 big towels, 1 wash cloth, and a Downey ball earlier today. It's HD, so it's taking a long time to upload--be up later tonight. I will post.

If it eventually rusts/falls apart, I'll do a more permanent version of it. So far--nearly a year later--it's trucking right along. I like it so much that it will be there as long as I can make it.

Hey, where's the rest of the video...RINSE and FINAL SPIN!!! Thanks so much Dan...AWESOME. The 'deep ramps' are so POWERFUL, it pulls the load down with such force...they're really the BEST next to the dual actions agitators. They ABSOLUTELY can handle heavy loads. I can't wait for you find the blue, Heavy Duty 'RIBBED' deep ramp agitator with the hand wash agitator...please keep the vids coming.

Dan, an easy and cool video to make is one that show the washing action of the deep ramps with all the water levels. Starting off at MINI level, add a few items and let it agitate a few minutes then let it fill to the next--SMALL and watch the action at that setting...maybe add a few more items--each setting up to EXTRA LARGE enjoying the wash action of the deep ramps. Even RESET-ting to water level to the maximum fill completing the cycle until spin out and rinse.
