Our school had it's own laundry that was included in your room and board. The problem is they starched everything including your underwear! No starch was not an option. But at least it all came back starched and folded.
Yup, we had NO ELECTRICAL appliances allowed at all besides an alarm clock! I had to get a waiver for my electric typewriter. You could also get a waiver for an electric razor too.
Fortunately there was an acceptable coin op about 5 blocks off campus and about a mile from our dorm.
Oh, and yes no girls EVER were allowed beyond the formal "sitting room" in the lobby of the dorm.
A few years after I graduated the school started to relax all these rules. At the time I went there it was a dry county ruled by the local Baptists. Eventually the school realized that to remain competitive they had to change. I would have loved to been there when the local Baptist preacher announced to his congregation that the school actually now would have "co ed dorms!" Oh, lord have mercy!
A few years ago the county laws were changed and the county was no longer dry! The school student center actually serves beer now! I think a lot of the dyed in the wool Baptists that were so influential in that town must have died off.
