Haven't seen any discussion of Ms. Sotomayor. What do you all think? I know a lot of Dems are gushing over her, she was first appointed by the first Pres. Bush. I'm thinking she might surprise us all once she gets on the court, just as Souter did....

I've been watching the confirmation hearings but not religiously. Over all, she is one very cool and collected person who seems unflappable no matter what the republicans throw at her.

I'm ambivalent about her but will say that the thought of what fanatical idiot G.W. Bush might have put up for confirmation right now makes me shudder.

60% of her decisions have been overturned,

I think this is a claim that needs some context. The way I heard it was that the percentage of reversals on appeal has as its base the total number of cases appealed. This number, cases appealed, is dwarfed by the total number of cases decided. I wish I could cite you exact numbers.

Sazon Goya.....con culantro y achiote... for flavor! *

Power corrupts.
Absolute power corrupts abosolutely.

Being a humble girl from the projects of the south Bronx on a presumably limited/fixed incomme in her youth and formative years, maybe she can be placed in a better/different governmetal dept. to teach this country how to spend within its means.

:-)

I've heard it said that powerlessness corrupts and it makes just as much sense. So I guess that means those of us in the middle can't be corrupted. I think it depends on just what you might end up being in the middle of, and I could see myself as being quite corruptable in certain situations . . .

I don't like or trust her. I also have a gut feeling that she may be more conservative on social issues than we think.
Notice how she avoided answering the questions regarding abortion. I also don't believe that she will be a friend of the Gay community. She has gone on record saying she is a staunch Roman Catholic. Need I say more..

For the life of me i can't remember was John Roberts ask that many goofy, hypothetical questions?
