I have a 1960 Frigidaire Imperial.....De-gutted. It is a beautiful machine, and even has the suds saver feature. No guts though. Only the controls, wiring, and console.
I also have a 1961 Frigidaire Imperial, which I purchased for parts awhile back. The cabinet and console are thrashed, but the spin tub and mech are all there. I plugged this 61 in this afternoon and tried to run it.However, all it does is hum. I know the motor is trying to start, as the lighting in the garage dims slightly at the same time. The pulleys are movable by hand, and I noticed the top belt is tight and looks new, while the lower belt is loose and has chunks missing. I did try to start the motor by moving the pulley by hand as power was still engaged, but the motor would still not start up. The sound did change slightly as I rotated the pulley. It would seem as though the motor should at least try to run, however I realize that the belt tightness is an issue with these. Could the motor capacitor be defective, along with the belts? There is a small access panel on the rear at the bottom. I removed this panel, and it looks as though the motor capacitor is mounted on the inside of the rear panel, rather than on the motor itself. Should I replace the capacitor along with the belts?
Also, I have an additional question about this "transplant"
Will the spin tub from the 61 model fit the 60 model? If not, does anyone know where I can purchase a spin tub to fit a 1960?
Thanks guys!
