Just to further my education, does anyone know if early Americanas like this one have the removable oven liners in the upper oven, so that they can be cleaned in the lower P*7 oven? I have been around later Americanas with that feature, but I don't know if it was available all along, or a later invention.
Sandy, I don't think that they all had the removable liners, but am not sure of the specific date/feature change. And while I appreciate the self cleaning feature, this early non-self cleaner would have the cool upper window to look down into the oven to see your meal cooking, which you lose with the self cleaning models!
Hans, perhaps a trip to the Detroit auto show this month and you can bring back the Americana, maybe even a new car, too!
To each his own, but GE's don't have as many of those problems as other brands in my experience, and parts are usually available if you know where to look.
Parts for my GE J 370 are no harder to obtain than parts for my 1968 Maytag laundry pair, I'd say.
