HI everyone, I have a question with the pump on my Speed Queen wringer washer. I took the plate off of the bottom of the pump to see if the impeller inside was the problem as to why the pump wasn't working.
How tight to I turn the clamp that puts pressure against the bottom plate to hold it in place and prevent leaks. I don't want to break the clamp. Any suggestions would be most welcomed. Thanks, Gary

Gary, I've broken my share of Speed-Queen like pumps due to overtightening!  Try tightening just until the screw is firm and leave it at that.  Hope this helps!

Perhaps the guidance in this service page might help? Seems like the fiber washer thickness would be key, especially if you are reusing the old one. Might have to use a new one or find a way to bring the old one back up to tolerance. If you squint just right, you can make it out 99% of this poor scan. Hope this helps.

It's one of those thumb screws meant to be tightened without tools, I THINK! So just just tighten it with your thumb and forefinger till it's snug. It's been a while, and I'm trying to remember if the pump then trickled slightly and I had to use pliers. I honestly can't remember, but as Paul says, go lightly.

And as you like to say: Happy Washing, Gary and good luck.

Hey Gary, before posting, I scrolled up to Bud's article and enlarged it" "Do Not use Pliers!"
