Speed Queen DC5 Electric Dryer

I picked this dryer up for a customer and took it apart for cleaning. Thought the inside might be of interest to someone here. This dryer was built in December of 2021 so it was in use for about a year and a half to two years. The complaint was that it took too long to dry. This dryer was obviously connected to a bad exhaust system. After a good cleaning it is ready for many more years of service.

But luckily, you found it a good home. It should go onto a nice long life could easily last 25 more years if it gets into a better home environment.

Yearly duct cleanings are mostly ignored. At beginning of each year, I clean the dryer ducts and pull out the refrigerators to clean the condenser fans and coils. Just did that a couple of weeks ago.

Speed Queen sure doesn't give much variance between less and more dry on the Permanent Press automatic cycle.

I took my DR7 gas dryer apart after 5 years and there was no lint built up inside. I was surprised cuz I expected something, particularly around the blower like pictured. I wonder if the duct leading into the blower wasn’t seated properly. I noticed that on mine when I first got it and had to make sure it was seated tightly around the gasket.

Lint buildup inside dryer cabinets

The type of lint buildup this Speed Queen dryer exhibited is caused by very poor air movement through the dryer, this can be a common problem with any vented dryer where the venting is blocked the lint coming off the clothes will go somewhere. It tends to build up inside the cabinet, we see this fairly often. The other big reason for lint buildup inside the dryer is an exhaust duct that is not connected tightly and air with Lint in It is just being drawn back into the dryer.

A Dryer that is properly vented and connected to a good tight exhaust system will have almost no lint inside the cabinet after many years of use.
