Hey guys

I'm looking to buy this pair to replace my 15 year LG washer and Maytag dryer.

I have a few questions about the pair.

1. Have you guys had any major issues with this model? Ive heard that Speed Queen's customer service isnt as good as it used to be.

2. I was wondering what water PSI is recommended for the washer? I have 80 PSI at the cold and hot outlet. Do I need to lower the PSI before it goes into the washer?

3. Also I read that the dryer has a steam boost or refresh option. Does that need a water input as well?

80 pounds per square inch won’t cause a problem for water pressure.

I don’t think you could make the judgment that their services has gotten worse over the last five years as Speed Queen never had their own service agency and they’ve only become more popular in the last five years or so, so if anything, there are more service agencies out there now than there were five years ago.

That said Speed Queen services done by independent services much like Maytag back in the 70s and there are better ones and there are not so good ones. I guess I would check the service reputation of Speed Queen service in the area you live I have no idea where you live or I could help. You’re not very likely to need much service on a Speed Queen. It’s easily the most reliable brand out there.

If you want to conserve money, just get the washer. The dryer is very good but it’s probably not gonna be much better than a 15-year-old Maytag dryer.

Yes, the dryer needs a water feed. Normally it’s just branched off the cold water supply for the washer.

I have a speed queen top loader and dryer for my apartment complex that my tenants have been abusing for nearly 20 years.

Still going strong

Just like you said, I havent had to service them at all.

But these were made 2 decades ago when things were built better.

I'm concerned about the quality of things these days.

I still think I'm going to end up buying both though.

Speed Queen quality today

The speed queens of 20 years ago were certainly good but from any indication, we can see as a Speed Queen servicer for over 15 years. The current machines are better than they were 20 years ago. Quality control is excellent. We almost never see a problem related to quality control or assembly we’re only doing one or two warranty calls a month in the Maryland side of the DC metro area.

With the long warranty, Speed Queen is giveing currently they would be bankrupt in 10 years if they didn’t build really great machines right the first time.

Most mainstream companies like LG Samsung whirlpool cannot begin to afford to give even a two-year warranty on their products because they’re building them down to a cost so much, in the 15 years with Speed Queen. I’ve never seen one place where they’ve even taken a penny out of the construction cost of the machines I’ve only seen improvements.

Speed Queen

Ok, ditto, ditto, ditto, to Combo 52’s responses! I am so glad he’s said everything he did because it makes my response so much less. Lol!

I do own 3 Speed Queen’s. I own the Stainless FF7 pair, also own theSF7 stacked pair, I bought my parents the TC-5003 so that I don’t have to hear any more crap about a damn cheep washer they stupidly choose to buy.

I’ve owned them all since 2021. I have called customer service a number of times for things like registration questions of all 3 products and cycle questions, etc…

Speed Queens customer service is by far the best ever. I’m definitely not saying this because I own 3 of them but that’s why I own 3 of them. And as Combo 52 stated before they are made better now than before, It seems to me in particularly in the way of their control boards. I have ‘heard’ that Speed Queen control boards have been made so well that they are more reliable than their mechanical timer predecessor. Now, with that said, and before I get some hate mail, Speed Queen may have had some issues in the first two years w/ their control boards, I believe 2015, 2016 when Speed Queen first switched to digital control boards, “Combo can correct me if I’m incorrect of course,” where they had some control board issues but they did correct the issue on their own ASAP and extended the warranty.

It’s sad and rather frightening that Speed Queen is the only company left that seems to make it like it used to.
