I need help in identifying which part number the transmission installed in my 2018 product code TV2000WN top load washer is.

According to Speed Queen hub and lip seal kit it's either a 38165P or a 201181, evidently the 201181 has been replaced by the 38165P.

The Speed Queen parts manual states that it is indeed a 38165P for my washer.

I need to know because the 766P3A Hub and Lip Seal Kit calls for a spacer to be installed (included in the kit) onto the top side of the transmission, there was none when I removed the transmission itself.

The 201181 transmission does not require the spacer.

Could it be that the 766P3A Hub and Lip Seal Kit is an updated design from what was originally installed on this machine, requiring the spacer, can anyone elaborate?

I'd rather not guess...

Attached are images of all markings/castings on the transmission itself.

TIA!

I did one the other day that said it needed the spacer but it did not. Easiest way to tell is with the transmission out drop the spacer on and slide the hub down on the transmission until it bottoms out. On the one I was doing if I used the spacer like was instructed there were not enough threads left for the nut that holds the hub down. They added the collar so the kit could be used for multiple models.

As it turns out I can't use the spacer with my transmission either, there won't be much threading to secure the tub flange retaining nut.

Evidently the tub seal that was factory installed in my machine has been superseded by part #766P3A, the old seal did not have the stainless steel collar in the tub bearing as the new one does.

Thanks for your input!

Not sure, however the markings on the unit itself don't remotely
indicate the part number.

The ALS part ID # may indicate which transmission part number I have, but it involves reaching out to SQ support to decipher, googling it came up with nothing useful.

One thing is for certain, with my transmission the spacer is unnecessary.

confusion resolved

Just got off the phone with SQ tech support, transmission part number 201181 is actually a 38165P unit WITH a 766P3A seal kit provided, a 38165P is just a bare transmission.

Transmission 38165P has been in use for at least 25 years, earlier versions of it required the spacer, since my machine is a 2018 model the transmission housing was revised where the spacer is not needed, the tech could not provide a cutoff date for when the change took place.

I suggested that they re-word the instructions provided with the seal kit, as it is now it is confusing, why in the world would they list a transmission part number with a seal kit provided when the instructions are for installing the kit?

I now have a nifty steel spacer to toss into my miscellaneous parts bin...
