I have a speen queen 432 2012 model, I am happy with it but I have had this happen 2 or 3 times, as it is washing the clothes it will start making ahorrendous loud metallic noise. it is so loud that I stop the machine and put it on spin, then it spins fine and it goes back to working fine. I never overload. also it seems to happen when I use hot water.do any of you guys have any thoughts on what this could be? also when I bought it the guy told me he would in service it if I raised the water level but I did it anywhy so I don't want to pay for a service call.

Mine will do that off and on also

and on a hot wash.

The only thing I can think of is the grease thins out where the mounting springs are attached to the outer porcelain tub. When hot, less "cushion" so to speak. I'm willing to bet since yours has a cold rinse like mine, that it does not make any noise on the rinse cycle.

If I follow you correctly, you want to raise the water level yes? There's a youtube vid link I attached that explains how to do it.

thank you

washman, I felt the hot water must have something to do with it. I did raise the water level to where it should be. I bought it at alco appliance in Follansbee w. va. and I told the guy I wanted the water level fixed and he told me that I would void my warrenty if I did that but I did it anyway. I live close to Steubenville ohio and this was the closest place that I could find a speed queen. the next closest place was canton. I do love this washer. it has never acted up on the rinse. danmantenn videos on you tube made me want this washer. my mom loved her solid tub speed queen, I love the spin drain.

No worries

Remember, a foul isn't a foul unless the referee blows his whistle.

danmantenn has a lot of vids and I have over the last 2 or so years, referred people to them who were interested in Speed Queen. I have some of my own up there too.

Welcome to a discerning group of launderers that value proven design and engineering over computer laden trouble prone complex to use machines which barely outlast the warranty. You made a wise investment.

If you have a yen to see a solid tub in action, youtube jetcone and his masterful restoration of a 1957 model. In fact, he documented the restoration process here in fantastic detail. The fact he could even restore it to pristine working condition is a testament to the original design itself starting with the famous Arc-Cuate 210 transmission. I can't wait to see someone 20 years from now try to restore a Samsung or LG or some other plastic fantastic modern marvel.

And rwindiana did a slo-mo vid that proves even our modern units have a true 210 degree stroke.

SPEED QUEEN NOISE

Please go to page # 28 of the parts manual, and you will see parts# 5 and 6
#5, 35535 Washer Thin
#6, 27015 Washer Thick
these are the parts making noise, it has happened to me as well, one drop of oil to them will alleviate the noise, I am sorry I cannot up load the picture.
They will rub against each other making a God Awful screecing noise during the wash agiatation and sometimes rinse agitation if not properly lubed!! They will not make noise during the spin...hope this helps you.

Jay,

There is no connection between those two Alco's

The one in West Virginia appears to be a retailer based on the hardware and furniture business.

The Beltsville Alco is a ~40 year old appliance service/sales company.

while some may yell at me...

I used WD 40, and it worked great. The skinny straw makes it easy. I have had this happen to me.
