I know that feeling when something is essentially bought out from underneath since there’s been various machines and cars too that have been bought out from underneath me, but I usually take it as a sign it wasn’t meant to be. There’s a reason why things don’t work out or come to fruition, I’ve been in search of a Maytag A806 set since 2017 and various 806’s did pop up for sale, but never ended up working out. Reason why they didn’t end up working out is it was a sign that particular set wasn’t meant to be, either the machine needed some work or the seller was asking an arm and a leg. There was once a Maytag A806 in coppertone set that Strictlybojack picked up, thought about picking it up myself but just had a bad feeling about that particular set. Turns out, the dryer had a burned out heating element, and needed quite a bit of work despite it being in good cosmetic condition.
Some more time goes by, then get a message from a friend about a Maytag DE306 in Costa Mesa (not far from Long Beach in California), arranged a time to pick it up. Wasn’t a TOL Maytag but figured I’d pick it up since it was a Maytag HOH.
3.10 years go by, was having a conversation with Anthony/waterwitch, mentioned he had a Maytag A806 that was no longer needed, arranged a time in June of 2022 and the rest is history as they say.
I now had a Maytag A806, but didn’t have a match to it quite yet. Then I figured a 806/808 console could easily be mounted to the DE306 cabinet. Was searching for a Maytag 808 console for awhile, but didn’t have any luck finding one on here. Then, got a message from someone in a Facebook group “hey, I think I have what you are looking for”. Sure enough, was the 808 console I’ve been in search of, arranged shipping not long after that. Fast forward a couple of years, arrived at my front door step.
Got to work wiring and hooking things up, working out bugs along the way. A week later, had a Maytag A806 set. Took 6 years, but was well worth the wait.
To quote qsd-dan: “Patience and persistence goes a long way when finding these machines, never in my wildest dreams would I think I would own a Maytag 906 set”. Not the exact exact quote, but is as close to what I remember him saying in a YouTube comment over 5 to 6 years ago.
