Speed Queen top loader won't agitate after fill

I have a Speed Queen top loader (can't remember model but think I bought the tol top loader) that is less than 2 years old. Just yesterday I started laundry and went upstairs, came back down probably 30 minutes later and my machine is humming or buzzing and there is a burnt rubber smell. Upon opening the lid I could see it never started to agitate. I turned the machine on and off again and it started to agitate. (Rest of the cycle went fine.) 2nd load everything was good. 3rd load, again I filled and it didn't start to agitate once I closed the lid. This time turning on and off didn't work...I unplugged and plugged back in, turned the dial a few times to restart cycle and eventually I got it to start again. Once again the cycle finished fine. Repair company (who also sold me machine) coming on Monday but what do you guys think is up? I am so disappointed since I was told and expected these babies to last me 25 years!

I know it is disappointing, but

the machine has a great warranty , and if a part is going to fail, and let's face it sometimes they do , it will be replaced free of charge, that does not diminish the overall quality or life span of your washer. You still made a well informed good purchase.

Bad Timer

Sounds like your timer is failing. There was a series of bad timers that SQ was having to deal with. Don't worry, it will be fixed!

Sounds like a timer issue. I heard about it on this sight, same status quo from a local repair guy. Supposedly these timers have short move increments and a lot of cycles. That's actually why I ended up getting the most basic model because I was afraid of this happening. Guess one of the contacts misses the dead line. Could be the start winding. When those aren't powered up the motor will just hum until overheating.

Let us know what up when its getting fixed. Im sorry this happened on a high reliability machine, but remember it could've been a transmission failure.

Timers for these washers are made in Mexico and very inexpensive, e.g. we paid ~$60 for one several months ago for our AWS76 (TOL circa 2006). So apparently the bad news is also the good news.

Broken SQ TL washer

The good thing it is under warranty, and this machine can last 25 years, but like everything man-made they do require repairs.

If your description is accurate, you either have a transmission that is locking up at times, bad motor or possibility a bad timer, hopefully the service people can fix it quickly.

Thanks everyone. I love the machine, I really do. Ran a few loads this weekend just fine..then the 3rd load did it...I pushed or pulled (can't remember) just SLIGHTLY not enough to stop the cycle on the cycle knob and that engaged the agitation.

Repair guy was just here. Bad timer he says. He said he had a bunch come through...then nothing...then a few more here recently. Needs to order right timer.
