I have a speed queen washer awn432sp111tw01 and the matching dryer that we bought new, used for a couple of years, then stored in the basement for 2 years. We just got them out to use again. They were working fine when we stopped using them.

The washing machine is now extra, extra loud - mostly during the spin cycle. I looked some stuff up and things seem to point to the seal and bearing. However, there is NO movement or play in the basin when you try to spin it around when the machine is off. The entire basin assembly does move back and forth, but I'm reasonably sure it did that before. When you look inside the machine while it's spinning, the agitator does wobble a bit as it's getting up to speed but doesn't seem to continue this once it's at full speed.

Is it possible the bearing hasn't failed but needs to be greased or something?

Ps. It's not leaking from the bottom that I can tell

I’d guess the drain pump as the noise source, given it’s been sitting for a long time. Remove the front cover and listen as it runs, to narrow down the source of the noise.

Noisy In Spin SQ TL Washer

It is probably a bad top spin bearing, do try popping the pump off the motor and running it if you like, but pumps don't make noise unless something is in the pump and it would make noise while agitating.

 

If it is the top bearing it is difficult to replace, it may run for a long time without failing.

 

You could try turning the machine up-side-down and soaking the bottom of the bearing with oil and leave it USD for at least a few days.

 

If the washer was stored in a very humid place or if water was left sitting the the outer tub this type of failure is more likely during long storage.
