Speed Queen Washer

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

It could be anywhere between 1983 and 1988. It may not have the entertainment of the solid tub machines, but nontheless it will put on a decent show. It looks brand new.

Have a good one,
James

i have two of those, both from 1984-HA3001 and HA5001,pretty good washers and they
feature a rim flo filter setup.most repair work on these is pretty easy, but
repairs involving the agitator shaft or basket hub can be a real pain as i found
out wih one of mine:pin for the drive block would not come out and there was
severe corrosion of the aluminum basket hub...ended up taking the whole tub, basket
tranny, milkstool, etc.from a smashed up dump grab and installing in the washer.
Parts machine was also an '84,so must have been a good year for marathon
speed queens-at least locally.Have not found any matching dryers,so these might
be a case where the washers outlived the dryers?

Pretty good year for Marathon's",   I wonder if this was about the time Sears became "brand central".  Of course Sears always put the "hard sell" on the Kenmore products.

1980s SQ WASHERS

The pin in the agitator drive block was not designed to be removed, normally on these you just replace the shaft and block. Even the current SQ TLers can be difficult to do major repairs on after they have a few years of use and corrosion on them. They are a little like old Norge built TLers, too many pot-metal parts exposed to water. Fortunately the current TL SQs are much better built than the 1980s machines and will not likely need many major repairs for a long time at which point most will just be replaced and recycled.

pin

yeah,i tried just about everything to get that pin out with out drilling LOL
-then the parts machine became avalible...BTW,the bent up dump grab"parts"washer
only had a bad lid switch-just bypassed under the control panel by unplugging
and plugging together a couple wires and washed a few loads in it before stripping
it to fix the other washer

Sears did not really become Brand Central until 1990. Until then their inventory was exclusively Kenmore.

Have a good one,
James
