an interesting question for you guys......

even though I have the washer.....how does the dryer rate?....not just drying, but the end results.....how do the clothes come out after drying is done?...

and here is a prime example.....but is really noted to the ones who have had a Kenmore/Whirlpool dryer....and now have switched to the Speed Queen....

and JohnL will probably be the one to know the insights/schematics to these machines...

I too am all for matched sets, most everything I have is a matched set......the Neptunes are OK for drying, to get the same results I am looking at, is to dry everything on LOW....on any machine for that fact that doesn't offer this soft heat feature....

where as a Kenmore/Whirlpool (and a few others) offer this 'Soft Heat' drop down temp feature that makes all the difference in the world for drying results, mainly wrinkling, which I don't experience with these types of machines.........

like I said, only those who have got the chance to use both will understand....

so hence, my Ken/Whirl gets priority for perfect results at normal temps....gas or electric....

I have the pre-moisture sensor model

Bought about a year after I got the washer. Only a thermostat controls the drying. And it is all mechanical.

90 per cent of my drying is on delicate. I use Hot/high for my cleaning rags.

I'd rate the performance good however it could benefit from a moisture sensor as sometimes, even on delicate, the laundry is a tad over dried. Perm press is acceptable with a nice cool down cycle/extended tumble.

All in all I am happy but I give a very slight edge to the GE due to the moisture sensor shutting things down before the clothes over dried.

I had a whirlpool dryer for many years. Now have the speed queen.
It's best not to get the speed queen dryer. IMHO.

I don't recall over drying in the whirlpool. The speed queen is hard to set.
Also during cold weather the dryer takes on a funky smell. The galvanized steel smells like metal left out in the cold.

New SQ Dryers

Are decent sturdy dryers, they are fairly fast and run a little hot and the mechanical timer models are hard to set the dryness level accurately.

 

That said the 29" WP built dryers are still the best overall dryers ever built anywhere in the world. No other dryer gives the performance, speed , durability, easy repair ability and longevity. We are talking about a design that has been in use for 50 years and it is not that uncommon to see machines that are 50 YEARS OLD still working great.

 

But like many things in life if you get a new SQ dryer your satisfaction with it will depend on what you had before. About 6 months ago I sold a customer a new SQ gas dryer that had one of the last HOH MT dryers, needless to say the customer was blown away with how fast and gentile the new SQ was compared to the old MT HOH dryer.
