What do people think of washing machines that spin during the rinse cycle? My AEG Lavamat does this, I am happy with it. I have posted a video of a machine called Privileg below, basically this machine is identical to my AEG just its called Privileg ( By the way, is Privileg German like AEG?) I know its the Electrolux company but am just interested.

Why didn't they do spin washes like the older Zanussi's?

The vid shows the machine with the water jet on doing sin rinses 3 times then the drum speed increases to distrubution speed, but wheres the water gone??? This machine hasn't taken enough water, which is why the spin rinses triggered quickly ( spin rinses are triggered by the water dropping to certain level)

Spin rinses

My Zanussi IZ does the same rinse pattern, but only when fully loaded with absorbent cottons.

If I only wash a half load of cottons, that rinse pattern is sometimes skipped altogether.

I think it is something to do with the machine's 'fuzzy logic' control system: i.e. rather than take in litres more water, the machine probably tries to 're-use' the water it already has taken in for the rinse - by spinning it back out of the laundry.

As for spin-washes, I surmise hot-water spinning caused more creasing to the laundry, but don't really know. Alternatively, maybe it caused suds-lock problems?

As far as I know, Zanussi dropped the spin washing partly because people thought their machine was malfunctioning! Another reason may be that the heater element was moved from the sump to the tub in Nexus models.

I haven't noticed creasing to be a problem on my ZFL1023, and a sensor stops the spins should excessive suds-lock occur.

Rolls Rapide

Yeah my AEG is basically the same as your IZ. Do you ever notice when washing duvets for example, the machine can't balance itself onb the rinse for the Rinse Spin the machine takes in a little more water to compensate for the fact it cant spin during the rinse?

I like when it spins on a rinse when washing really absorbant items, the water gushes up the door. The only problems I have with this is that limescale gets dislodged in the machine and I get some limescale deposits on the laundry after its been washed (I do descale the machine from time to time)

As with Fuzzy Logic, I think it only has Fuzzy Logic on the rinse cycles. Ive not noticed any use of Fuzzy Logic in this machine on any other part of the cycle. The rinse sometimes is shorter, it depeds if the Spin has happened on the rinse, if the spins don't happen (if the items are not very absorbent) the rinse takes longer. The near distrubution tumbles towards the end of the rinses always happen.

Privileg

Privileg is the housebrand of Quelle, a long excisting German catalogue company. Privileg is just a label, not a brand. A Privileg products are made by several manufacturers. This Privileg looks mostly like a Zanker, which is also an Electrolux model. Zanker machines of that era are closer to Zanussi's than to AEG's. The more expensive frontloaders were labelled Matura and were built in the same factory as the AEG's. Unfortunately Quelle stopped using the Matura label when AEG decided to stop making AEG's in Germany.

Louis you're right: in the vid linked by AEG03, the orange light in the door handle is a zannish evidence

Just found that youtube user Maturasigma has a stainless steel Privileg dishwasher that is nearly identical to my AEG 6071M

I guess also those Bauknecht used as a wallpaper by Maturasigma had spinrinses (I liked them a lot, but have never seen one working). If'm not wrong, once you said some of your relatives had bad experiences with Bauknecht washers. Were those such machines or later models ?

spinrinses

my Zanussi XC Jetsystem 1200 does a spin rinse but only on the full length 2hours cottons 60 wash cycle. it won't do it on any other length cottons cycles.

No, I've never noticed that on my machine: it has never 'topped up' the water level on the rinses to compensate for aborted spin-rinses. Maybe that's "Advanced Fuzzy Logic" LOL!

I have to say in my experience, that the tilted drum idea seems to allow better spinning than a purely horizontal drum. It appears to be very stable and works every time.

Spin-Wash

Maybe it would be a good idea to bring this feature back again, in the light of people's experiences with too low a water level and the associated dirt and smells that can, and do, build up.

It may have the benefit of keeping the tub cleaner for longer - a self-cleaning action, if you will.
