By this time, "Large Capacity" meant their standard capacity tub, absolutely the same and interchangeable with the V-12's, V-14's and "Heavy Duty 16's"(they were such fibbers!). Their "Heavy-Duty 18's" morphed into "Extra-Large Capacity" in the 80's and early 90's.
I once weighed out a 12 lb. load of mixed clothes and tried stuffing it into the V-12 we had for 16 years. The machine operated, but as good as that ramp activator was, there was absolutely no rollover. I think they must have been depending on the fact that very few housewives would have taken the trouble(or have had an acurate scale nearby)to weigh the laundry before putting it in the machine. In another thread, I revealed that I discovered that the GE solid tubs were practically the same volume as the V-12 perforated ones; there couldn't have been more than a few cubic inches of difference between them. The solid tubs had an activator that displaced a lot less space than the ramped ones.
Ken - you're correct, thanks for setting that straight. The catalog that features my washer classifies the washer categories as "Extra Large" and "Large" but for the dryers they use "Extra Large" and "Standard".
