I bought a new TC5 to replace an old Speed Queen washer. Wish I had just rebuilt the old one. Only 2 water levels. Completely ridiculous to use so much water for a small load. I see that I am late to the party as in reviewing the threads, I see that this is a known issue. It wasn't known to me. The appliance store told me that it had a load sensor, so I understood that it would adjust the water level. Are there any decent washers on the market where you can adjust the water level like on my old SQ?

The age of top loading washers is over

If you’re concerned about water you’d never buy any top load washer, the consensus among almost everybody on this site who has a modern washing machine is to buy a front load machine. They use very little water and use the water efficiently and do a better job washing, rinsing, and spinning than any top loader ever made.

The TC five you just bought is a very good rugged washer that will last 25+ years hopefully you’ll learn to enjoy it and be able to ignore all the water it uses on smaller loads.

There are 4 water levels by choosing different cycles.

Eco cycle = 12.5 gallons per fill or 14.5 gallons with deep fill.
Permanent Press/Heavy Duty = 14.5 gallons per fill or 19 gallons with deepfill.
Delicates/Bulky = 16 gallons per fill or 19 gallons with deep fill.

I use the bulky sheets setting for almost everything. Seems perfect.

My old Maytag had an variable water level, never used it once in 35 years. I do full loads only. Smaller loads waste water in the washer, and electricity in the dryer.

Yes, but they're all junk. All new top loading washers are junk except the TC5 but it has serious limitation since 2018.

Your choice is either a front loader, a pre 2018 Speed Queen top loader, or a vintage top loading washer.
