Stackable sets

I was never a fan of stacked washer / dryer sets, they looked somewhat low budget, until my son converted a long narrow bedroom closet into a laundry room. I found a first gen Neptune with electric dryer that just fit and changed what’s left of my mind. Flash forward; my bosses’ washer died last month and I was promoted to assistant removal technician. He was lamenting the lack of a utility sink when I saw the solution and suggested a stacked set. Problem; the Neptune controls are between the units and easy to use. The new stacked sets are exactly that, dryer over washer. I’m 5’ 10” and have a hard time reaching the dryer controls let alone seeing them. Sue is 5’ 2” she would need a ladder. Unless those things come with elevator shoes they are useless. My research has been a trip through Lowes and Home Depot so I really don’t know what’s out there. What is the best front load washer and gas dryer with accessible controls?

Stackable front load washer and gas dryer

Hi there,

Speed Queen manufactures a stack set with the controls in between both units. I have one and am very happy with it. Also, it is only 28 inches deep. Great for service too. Both washer and dryer have front access panels.

the best choice would be a stackable topload washer and drye

the best choice if you have the room or space would be a set like this with a rack with the dryer bolted on top if you have the space if not a vintage set like this would do the job well as well and the dvantage of a set like this is if one day you move they can be converted to portable models

Looking on AjMadison, there are quite a few unitized sets with controls in the middle. GE/Kenmore has some,  as well as Frigidaire. Not sure about the quality of either of those, though.

 

Both Speed Queen and Whirlpool/Maytag have unitized front loader stacks for commercial applications with controls in the middle.

 

Lastly, you could also stack a European set. The controls for the dryer would be roughly 5' 5" high.
