Boy, when I goof, I goof.

Like a lot of guys, I sometimes end up with small blood spots on pillowcases, from shaving nicks. I keep an eye out for them, and pretreat them appropriately, leaving me without a problem, until now.

Today, I was ironing a freshly laundered pillowcase (hot water, Oxydol, Oxi-Clean and softener, hot dry). After ironing the first side, I turned it over and found -

Yep, you guessed it. I had missed a blood spot - and found it only when it had gone through a hot wash, a hot dry, and ironing.

Does anyone have a possible solution? These are plain white percale sheets, 200 count, cotton/poly blend.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Sandy, This happens to me also. I usually without even checking just run the sheets and pillowcases though a pre-wash with Oxi_Clean. Then.... a regular hot wash. Works every time.

Now...I would soak in cold water with oxi-clean overnight.

Petek:

Thanks for the tip, but electric shavers and my face are not a match made in Heaven. Basically, the combo I have is tough beard, sensitive skin. You would not want to look at me once an electric gets through with me, LOL.

I've tried the Norelco/Phillips, and it was just as problematic for my particular face as any other electric, sad to say.

PEROXIDE......pour it on the stain....roll it up and put it in a ziploc bag and seal overnight....then re-wash in warm water with a good detergent, like TIDE, and all fabric bleach

Sandy, what kind of blades/shaving cream do you use? I'm another manual blade user, and since switching to Gillette Good News disposables (carbon footprint be damned) with Barbasol shaving cream, 10+ years ago, I don't think I've ever had a nick since then.

One other suggestion: when shaving, keep the blade very well rinsed of stubble. Swishing it around in a sinkful of water doesn't cut it, you need a good heavy stream of water to keep the blade clear. This will reduce or hopefully eliminate your nicks.

this may seem extreme, but done carefully; it will make the stain go away. Dab full strength chlorine bleach on the spot. Let it stand for 10-15 seconds or so. Rinse with cool water. You may have to do this a couple of times. Then rewash.

Or if you prefer, there is a bleach "pen" that basically accomplishes the same thing.

My Stain Removal that helps:

I use Shout on most of my Stains and then I do a Rinse and Spin. This is only with my Whites Loads. I use 3/4 of a Cap of "HE" Detergent, to give extra Cleaning. I actually do use an initial first Hot Water Fill, followed by Cold Rinses. I'm using an LG Compact Combo Unit and when the Water finishes filling, I let it Tumble a couple/few Minutes, then I let the Load set in the Tub, then I re-set the Rinse & Spin which gives an additional 32-minutes of Tumbling and actually 3-Rinses,followed by an 1000-RPM Spin.

I then re-set the Cycle for a full Perm-Press, using the Hot or Medium Wash Temp, followed by 3-Deep Rinses with Cold Water. I use another 3/4 Cap of Detergent, Borax Detergent Booster and Pine-Sol {Blue} Sparkling Wave Scent to help soften Bath and Hand Towels. I also use Cuddle Soft Fabric Softener. These naturally all go into the Dispensers.

Since my LG Compact Combo and the Kenmore Compact Dryer both run on 110-Volts, all of my Laundry get an additional extra Spin at 1400-RPM, to cut down the Drying Time. I can actually dry a fairly large load of heavy items within 45-minutes to 1-hour, which I think and feel is pretty good for a Compact Dryer.

I just took the back off and cleaned the excess Lint out of that Dryer real recently and that has helped a fair amount of shortening the Drying Time.

I have never had any kind of Stains remain, as long as I found them, before my Rinse & Spin.

For other much harder Stains to get out, I use either my Astonish or Vanish Soap Stain Removal Bars.

I hope that everyones ideas have helped you with your Stain removal problems.

Peace and Kind Regards, Steve

Soaking in cold water overnight always seems to do the trick. I usually use Spray N Wash Stain Stick. It's basically a stick of enzymes, after soaking, let some of that sit on it for a few hours or even overnight again, that should get the stain out. I myself have had almost the same situation happen but with a pair of white denim shorts. Washed them, then dried them. I was always told once it goes through the dryer, it's there for good. Not always the case hun. I treated them with the Stain Stick and presto. No more stain.

It's already been through the wash, dry and iron. By soaking in Tide you are trying to remove something that is already removed (protein). Same with peroxide; it denatures proteins.

First try the Oxyclean paste. Then try CLR. What is left is the iron in the fabric fibers from blood hemoglobin. CLR or another rust remover after the iron in the blood is set is your next line of attack.
