HI, 2, 3, Lo, Wm were standard markings for GE and Hotpoint 5 position heat switches, whether rotary or push buttons. Hotpoint called them "Recipe Heats." What is interesting is that while 2 stood for Medium High and 3 stood for Medium, Medium High was half of full (High) heat so 2 was the denominator of the amount of heat and Medium was one third of full (High) heat so 3 was the denominator of the amount of heat.
