Westinghouse Ads

Betty Furness along with Lucy and Desi did Westinghouse ads in the 50's and helped coin the phrase "You can be sure...if it's Westinghouse" and I believe Barbara Hale continued on with a few ads in the 60's.

Pearl Bailey continued on with White-Westinghouse. "Honey, at White-Westin'house, we build em like we used to!"

Shall we assume that Barbara Hale had a Radarange?

Fashion designer Bonnie Cahsin did an ad for the Kenmore sewing machine.

Someday when I'm famous, I want to do one of those ads. "Veg-o-matic can afford any washer he wants. He chose a Kenmore."

Phyllis Diller...

Also did print ads for InSinkErator disposals in the 60's, and legend has it she was presented a gold plated Kirby vacuum from the Kirby company...

Another Sears ad

Why does Anne Baxter, who could afford any washer she wanted, choose a Kenmore from Sears?

Because she stole it from Bette Davis.

Erma's Maytags replaced her Frigidaires

I believe you MaytagBear, when you say you saw that Erma had Maytags...but I am sure they replaced Frigidaire 1-18's because the article I have was done on her AFTER she and her family moved to Paradise Valley Arizona (which they did in June of 1971. PATRICK COFFEY

We are forgetting one of the most famous ad series of the 50's. Crosley! Margaret Lindsey (Warner Bros starlet from the movie "Jezebel" with Bette Davis) did a series of wonderful ads printed in pink promoting the fabulous Crosley line of appliances...........

When I was a boy, sitting with my grandmother for the 1/2 hour soap opera of As the World Turns in the 1976-1979 era, there used to be a commercial on TV about the 1-18. It was shown washing an almost Maxi load. Who did that commercial?

Steve

1976 Frigidaire TV Commercial

Steve,
I remember a Frigidaire commercial too from this same time, 1976 or maybe 1977. It showed a Frigidaire machine washing a full load and how fast the clothes rolled over, -VS- the Kenmore, which at the time was just introducing the Dual-Action agitator. The ad showed the Frigidaire washing a full load, and a single gym sock was added which quickly disappeared because of the fas rollover. I can only assume the other sock from the pair was the one tossed in the Kenmore, and how s-l-o-w-l-y it was incorporated into the wash by the Kenmore's ratchety dual action agitator.
Kenmore's TV commercial at the time was the "Fill 'er up, Fill 'er don't worry fill 'er up set to the tune of "Buckle Down Winsocki"
