Happen to have one of those portable Ironrites, and they do work a treat! Though mine doesn't have the on/off switch and has a nice new roller cover and padding.
Main problem one sees with these units is the way it is designed. Opening and closing the unit requires some strength, and one has to "hold" or push upper part of the unit (which is not exactly light), in order to align the groove on one end to the hook on the base stand, or vice versa depending on if one is setting up or taking down the unit.

I never said they didn't perform well
They are great little units. I played with one in a thrift store last year. But, I think most people would rather use a small iron and collapsible ironing board rather than store one of these behemoths.
