Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Well technically speaking there are many direct drive machines out there, but not in the form of the old school "chug a chug a chug a chug a" machines we all know and love. I believe most of the new HE top load, and front load machines are all direct drive, but again...in definition only. Speed Queen uses a direct drive system, but paired with a belt drive mechanism to move the agitator.

The 24" model looks like its def DD...but how about the 27". I mentions having an HE agitator. The manual shows it looking different too.

Direct Drive WP Washers

Hi Joe, please read my post #8, We sell these machines every week, when I say there are still DD washers I think I know what I am talking about. Yes they might change some time in the future, but you can still buy a full sized DD washer in the 27" stack.

Direct Drive Whirlpool washers

There were actually many energy Star Direct Drive Whirlpool washers built starting in the late 90s. The first of these were the resource saver whirlpool and Kenmore models, these reduced the wash water temperatures and also did recirculated spray rinse system, they were extremely effective, We sold over 100 of them and people really liked them.

Later whirlpool went to a freshwater spray rinses which was not as effective and they also did the low water level splash rinses.

The 27 inch thin twin that were talking about does the low water level splash rinse or spray rinse depending on whether you use the fabric softener option.

Awesome, thanks for the info! I was considering a stackable unit to free up space in my laundry closet...not in the immediate future but probably a year or so when my warranty runs out on my current machines. I like the GE set honestly. It has the largest capacity from what I could tell. Aside from the new Frigidaire/Kenmore ones...but I don't know how well they work.
